Hi Teri. Getting a Scania 8 wheel tipper. Thinking of using GT professional, also tipper activator. Do you recommend the DX6i for this, or what do you suggest. I can build them OK, but my electronic knowledge is not so great. If you could advise it would be appreciated. Still follow all your Videos. Keep up the excellent work. Thanks. Bill
@billtuckwell1399 spektrum DX6i is very old now, I'd go for a Skektrum DX6 as its newer.... or the Flysky FS-i6X is good. I'd steer clear of the GT Power units as they're a pain to set up and not so good when and if you do get them working. The Tamiya MFC-03 is a brilliant unit and does the job very well. If your electrical knowledge is not so good then steer well clear of the Beier systems.
Thank you, Teri.... I'm having to tell myself over and over again "POSITIVE COMMON! POSITIVE COMMON!" 😂 I really love what you're doing with the SMDs. Much more balanced lighting. I've got multiple packages of SMDs, and I'm going to start integrating those into my builds.... Starting with completely rewiring my Grand Hauler! Always looking forward to more.... but Harriet comes first. Hoping she knocks em dead at her show!! 🎉 .... love the idea of using ribbon as seat belts.
Why are you not using resisters for each led? You can cause damage to leds ruining them in series, you also cannot guarantee the balance of current. Just be interesting as to why you picked this method over the much more safer route, that you are also then able to fully control the current and voltage to each led but having them in parallel with resister
1000s of manufacturers use multiple LEDs in series, some use two and some use 3 in series depending on the application. absolutely nothing wrong putting LEDs in series. There's nearly 60 LEDs in this build, not many for a Scania, and using 60 resistors is just unnecessary. Even the light bars and beacon bar has LEDs in series from the factory.
I've always ditched the 540 silver can. It draws way too much current, and the Carson lasts longer on one battery. I've been doing this steering mod for 10 years or more now, and I've done better videos, more recently on that subject. 👌
Hey Teri. Yeah I've seen the recent one too. I was commenting on DO U RC but it came here. I had it streaming to my TV from my phone, but my phone was also open on your channel as I was going to post a link of the video. Basically don't try multitasking after being out all day and had a few in the garden 🍻😉
Power up the trailer lights from the onboard battery (the servo battery) not as you would like but a small switch in the locker could work and be self contained... which could be useful if the trailer is parked alone .. but maybe you have covered this in a future vid .. I will keep looking, otherwise, as always a great job and good progress in the right direction. But the beacons defaulting to on is a bit of a pain, I have the same beacons from Astec and the same functions. but hey oh, not a problem.
I remember it well, a trip to Intermodellbau makes you feel blessed, it is a place of pilgrimage, as you mentioned, if there is something in any facet of modelling from whatever genre, you can almost always find it at the exhibition, and how impressive and inspiring are the layouts presented, the Dutch contingent seem particularly enthusiastic, but that is a bit unfair the whole place is filled with excitement and enthusiasm for what ever individual delights they desire. A great exhibition to visit. 4 days of joy, oh and a lighter wallet, but worth every minute.
Teri, they are all exciting, interesting and informative in their own way, and presented in your very easy down to earth style. Thanks for sharing your blend of builds, tips, tricks, the good and not so good, but always enlightening and generally inspiring, well done.
A great idea with the small circuit board and ribbon cable, another inspiration, and agree that buying a bunch of LED's is worth it, enabling a whole variety of applications. Also agree with Model Lighting Solutions and Astec Models (mentioned previously). Intermodellbau in Dortmund, a modellers joy of an exhibition, I am a Brit but live in Germany so a trip to Dortmund every year in the Spring (when poss) is a must, also in November a trip to Fredrichshaven in November for the Faszinationmodellbau messe. You can buy, (as you know) all the LEDS, cables, hardware, tools, models etc etc, everything from A to Z and an abundance of wonderful models to admire. A place of inspiration and satisfaction to see what's exhibited.
I feel your frustration Teri. Initial review of your delivery looked super, and in principal it is ... but oh dear, how disappointing when you find the snags. However there is a small silver lining to disassembling everything, you now know what is underneath, you have cleaned and corrected as much as you can (so far - maybe some work for the shock plungers) and now reassembled as required, greased, aligned etc. What else could go wrong (he he) .. Upon completion you have a very competent and functional trailer to complement the truck and add to the Project success ... As with most things in life, patience is truly a virtue, especially with the small details of modelling .. often you are the only one to see the result, but it is those small details that gives an enormous amount of satisfaction and personal pride. Well done
The trailer appears a perfect fit for Teri Wilde RC and Project Ainscough. A good design & manufacture, maybe not so good assembly, but the attention to detail looks superb. The retractable tie-down points, break drums, bearings, decking, metal spars, etc etc .. what a joy to look forward to, an exciting adventure build continues, well done and thanks as always. The control system for the steering, presumably some sort of potentiometer driving the servo, interesting and a good solution. Look forward to see future development and your thoughts.
Teri, your happiness is well deserved and well rewarded, that is a perfect illustration of a job well done, and soon a super realistic trailer to match .. wow wow wow .. great job.
The coupler switch reduces power from the MFC to the motor when there's no trailer connected. Full power is only there when a trailer is on. You can bypass this by bridging the connection on J12 on the MFC so you have full power all the time.
@@TeriWilde Thanks Teri. I spent hours building it all to find it didn’t do anything when you press the button in the coupler. I carefully took the switch out to find the wires literally fell out of the switch. Maybe I damaged them installing the switch. Just spent hours pulling it all to bits to get the wire out of my extremely tidy loom. I tried touching the wires on the terminals and pressing the white button but still nothing. I have ordered a new compete switch & cable. I hope the MFC isn’t damaged. Everything else worked.
Graphics always make a difference, and the vinyl machines are a great tool, I have considered (and still do) but not yet taken the plunge, like you I have watched many vids on use, in fact the vid from Ian Sparks is very good, it does take some experience and trial and error to reach a point of satisfaction and patience by the bucket load I think .. so well done and good progress. The small details, as always are the ones that pop .. and are very much worth getting right ..
An absolutely awesome looking truck, the build quality enhanced by the paint job, well done to you and your buddy, a great job .. detailing at its best, you have to love these heavy haulers, and trucks in general .. great job. Not entirely sure of the merits of a sliding 5th wheel, but time and experience will tell, an interesting insight anyway.
Great stuff & presentation with an insight into the Wilde world of organising .. very nice, I like your idea of the hinges on the false wall. I will re visit my Arocs Tipper to improve my functionality and cable organisation, I like cable management also, but yours is a joy to behold, I am always reluctant to cut the excessively long wires from the MFC, but the time has come .. there is only so much space, and too many bends and pinches are not a good idea. I tried all that you have with the false wall but will have to re-visit inspired by your evident success, albeit my current project is the Arocs Tipper complete with interior.. that's the plan .. Thanks as always. Derek
Teri..... the indicator light wiring!!! 😮😮😮😮😮 Im watching these a few times, to try to absorb as much as I can. I'm taking my granddaughter's advice, RIP OUT all my wiring, and start over! Pray for me.... For being your first foray into Beier.... what you've done so far is brilliant.
Love the detail, that is what scale model engineering is all about (for me anyway). Like you I try to miniaturise the reality, or as close as realistic. It is worth taking the time and trouble, as you do, to highlight the details. I also use the MFC,s and still fit the full cab internals, not always easy but worth the effort. Great to see your approach and tips and tricks. Your printing of internals is a great idea, I did not know the availability of the water slide paper, I will search some out ..
Another organised video, informative for progress and organised with the wiring, as it should be, thanks as always for sharing your experience and application.
Well done Teri, a brilliant presentation, definitely a masterclass in Tamiya Gearbox assembly, great video, dialogue and tips/guidance, with principals relevant to all forms of modelling .. take your time, read the manual, prepare your work, establish the goal and look forward to a rewarding result. And these boxes are fiddly.
Yeah Teri, I'm a simple guy still learning about RC trucks. I have a WPL B14 and the set up is worlds away from Tamiya. I do have the flysky transmitter however I only need throttle, steering, gear change "2 speed" lights and I think that's about it. Can you please advise me on what brushed ESC and anything else that I may be leaving out. Kind wishes, Edward in Osaka Japan
I find that the Hobbywing 1060 is very good. I use them in all my other RC models. beware of cheap Chinese fakes. The genuine part will always have a red Heatsink.
Watching this series again.... STILL hoping to get even the cheapest Scania someday..... Anyway, the point. Yes, the MFC does everything easily and reliably.... Most people's main complaint is - NON adjustable sounds. Same with the GT Power. Not everyone is content with their trucks having the SAME engine/horn sound. Being transparent, the sounds you get with a Beier are..... shit! SEGA 80's video game quality. However, with creativity, which I know you have plenty of, you can make a Beier sound like you want it to. Not what you're forced to live with out of the box. Try to understand that. I understand that I have no real opinion of the MFC.... I could never afford one, and the 7 months I actually could, that period between getting my inheritance and my step-kids RIFLING through what was left.... (NOT counting the over $5000 I spent on people who no longer speak to me) The MFC was out of stock in every store in North America!! 😢😢 (Pandemic time) Someday I'd like to try one.
Looking great as ever Teri ,, love your lights wish I had your abilities,, could I ask do you have a link for your box of coloured wire and red and black by any chance ide be so gratefull ..
My 770s has been rewired three times. I just cant leave it alone. The good news is there is less wire each time! lol I hate those single strand wires as well. I change them out for multi core.
One man's opinion..... pain in the ARSE!!! I'm glad me granddaughter loves my hobby.... she enjoys watching videos with me. From the mind of the 13 year old, comes genius! Her suggestion for my rat's nest, that is the wiring on Smokey... RIP OUT THE LOT, and start over! .... I MAY have just enough wiring left, to do that. 😮 NO! Wiring a Beier System - properly - is NOT easy or quick!!
The bars..... I'd leave them. The SCANIA logo is a brushed silver look, and the bars tie in with that. Not forgetting rule #1 - it's YOUR Truck. If you want to black out the whole lot, that's your choice. But, I think that splash of silver, top an bottom, framing the logo in the middle, looks good.
@TeriWilde Maybe I should start saving for a MFC-01..... I have no opinion, as I've never used it. US rampant inflation makes any RC purchases daunting.
@@michaelrajca6043 you need 4 proportional channels to control a MFC-01 or -03 and have 2 of them with dual rates that control J5 and J6 control leads.
@@TeriWilde thank you for the response but please in laymans terms. i am not very knowledgable with he jargon. the radio has a proportional throttle and steering and 2 more proportional knobs which i can programj to wahevr i want and i can set dual rates on the throttle and steering also. also is it easier to calibrate than the gt powe because i was unable to calibrate for some reason. i didnt have any lights connected just the 3 servos speaker and motor. would that be a problem
Hello, great trailer and great vid and love your channel very beautiful looking to pick one up like yours as well but in the process of building a cabinet for it, would you kindly be able to measure the dimensions length width and height of it of hauler and trailer from head to toe so I know how big to make my cabinet? Thank you
I got a bunch of teeny SMD LEDs. Used some for dashboard and interior lighting.... but haven't tried them externally yet.... And can't yet fathom lighting on the same scale as YOU'RE doing!!! 😮😮😮😮 The rectangular LEDs, I really need, for Trailer safety lighting, and a few other spots. Ms. Teri.... I am more and more impressed, every video of yours I watch!! 🍺🏆👏👏👏 That Rig might be kicking your arse at certain points, but it WILL be impressive... And lit up like a Christmas tree!!
@@CarmineRC it's a truck I never want to build and installing a system I never wanted to install. I'm not rushing it for the sake of "getting it done". It going to be a very high standard and I'll take it to a couple of rc truck meets and maybe sell it. It's still not got enough lights to be able to join the Scania Fan Club, it's not having stacks, bull bar or 1000 lights because it's not a fairground ride, it's a truck!
HATE when that happens!! I've accidentally left it in photo mode meself..... My 13 year old Sophia is watching this with me, and asked "Gampy! Why haven't you finished your truck yet?" Good question, no good answer...
I promise I won't bug you.... but did you find any Carson rods yet? I put up another video, where I TEASE what I'll be doing to properly fix the horrible steering on Tamiya US model trucks....
