They grow in the Whitsunday region of tropical north Queensland (Aus.) which often gets as low as 50 degrees F or lower for short periods during the winter but warm during the day. The trick in winter in a wet and dry tropical climate ( they are native to a wet equatorial climate) is to plant them in a well protected place sheltered from any potential cold dry winds but open to warm winter sun , heavily mulch them to keep the root base warm , water them with warm water mixed with liguid potash and if a cool snap is forecast it is recommended to spray the fronds with a fungicide as cool weather can bring out a brown spot fungus that can lead to their demise. (PS. This winter in north Queensland has been an unusually cold one , so I hope the Lipstick palms recover ok😮)
@@gardenoftwitty I will give another update Sunday but right now I’m in Oklahoma. But I will be at the botanical gardens tomorrow and they have a good selection of tropicals!
I’m truly impressed and proud at the same time. Im in Norhtheast TX as well and know how complicated it can be to grow bananas to fruition. Love all your vidz and the awesome info you share. Peace N Love banana growmie
Very cool, Blayne! Mine flowered for the first time last year. I'm not sure if it will this year as it has been quite cool up until recently, but I guess there's still time.
@@PeterEntwistle great news! sounds like yours isn’t going to be dying any time soon! Idk why you had bad success in the past but I think it should be good long term this time around and produce fruit!
@@blaynesplantvlog7117 Yeah, I guess it will be winter that will be the problem now lol 😂. I think putting it in the greenhouse and repotting it as soon as it filled the pot has been key for thriving this time around.
Wow, those are huge Blayne! Do you know what variety that one is? I recently got the "Jack's Giant" colocasia, but it's currently a tiny plug plant so has a long way to go lol 😂
We are in Central Texas. I’ve been growing banana plants for three years and never a bloom. Are you overwintering your pseudo stems by wrapping them to keep them viable through winter?
Nice my musas are growing good hopefully my musas can grow like that too! My huge musa I got from Florida is growing ! 🌴 what do u do in the winter with ur musas ?
