Hi there, thank you for visiting my RU-vid channel, I am Heather Day and I have been a silverware jewelry artisan for roughly 9 years. Along the way I have recently begun to video some of the pieces I have created and wanted to share them with you along with some tools I have been demoing in hopes that they will assist you in anyway.
Beautiful earrings! Would have loved to watch you sweat solder them as well as I have not been successful as yet with that technique. Thank you for sharing!❤
Hey Heather, what cutting wheel do you use to cut your knife handle? Thanks for the video, it helps to see what tools and techniques other silverware benders are using.
Be very careful and on the watch for handles that contain Lead (Pb) cutting into them with an abrasive saw will make the particulates airborn and can be tracked home and passed to others. I wear full coveralls when i cut handles and buy a contained space with a vacuum.
Thanks for the video! I am cutting thru solid silver knife handles. Wondering, have you used a jewelry saw? If so, what size of blade did you use? If, not what blade would you recommend to cut through with a Dremel? I am cutting straight through
I don't see why not as along as your heat is hot enough to heat the 3 layers and you use easy solder :) I haven't try it with the heat gun yet but will give it a go next time around :)
Thank you Heather. I will be starting from sheet, so really appreciated you sharing how you got your shape. What gauge metal do you suggest for earrings? I was thinking 24? Also, is your mallet weighted? Thanks again.
You have a lot more patience than me when it comes to those cheap a** disc cutters-I saw a time when I wanted to throw it out into the yard! haha with the metal still in it. I actually had to use my hydraulic press to get the disc to come through. One vid said you have to put a piece of metal equal thickness on the other side so I tried that and it worked a little better. My next purchase is going to be a Pepe. Thanks for the idea with the delron balls. Will look for them.
Thank you so much Cynthia for your comment and yes, you are correct, with the adjustable disc cutters with center spring and the Allen wrench it is best to put a piece of metal equal thickness on the opposite side to keep the unit level when cutting so it will not distort the unit and for a much better cleaner cut. Your correct again that you get what you pay for and for those starting out and wanting to try the cutters without the major price point it gives them an opportunity while they save up for a good unit for sure :) I wish that Pepe offered a better variety of styles at a better price :(
The nibbler recommended you use a 1500hp -3000hp electric drill, to use with the nibbler. My drill is smaller, had a hard time trying to cut the trays..
