Otroligt roligt att se dessa gamla hjältar, och framförallt Frösö Maffian❤️ Att jag dessutom fick dela länken till farsan som va med ända till C finalen🏁 Alla namnen väcker massor av minnen till liv👍🏻
I took part in this race. In fact it was my last ever kart race because I’d had a monumental crash at Caldwell Park a fortnight before and my other half was understandably concerned about my safety. Great days!
I’ve just seen the number 41. Reminds me of Mike Fletcher from Peak Revs based in Stockport, driving a Blow Hustler chassis with a 250 Montessa stroker
I was a 2nd year apprentice for a BMW dealership, i was in the BMW south africa tent...we went WILD that last lap...that little standard production block 1500cc turbo boosting 4 bars is now a LEGEND. WHAT A MEMORY. sadly, F1 stopped happening due to sanctions.the beginning of the end for south africa, albeit a good spirited change, it hasnt benifited anybody except those who took over power, their families & friends, now filthy rich, the working class now worse off than then...it is what it is. Now after 28 years of ANC theft...the cuntry is F.U.B.A.R.

i used to visit the site all the time when i was a kid in the 70`s and early 80`s i was probably here for this race and 87-88 i worked on the site when it was being demolished, we removed all the sand from the indoor sand pits and it was tipped over the edge of the cliff, which meant the 5 ton thwaites dumper i was driving was empty for the return to the sheds and a mandatory balls out lap was had each time, not quite the pace of a twin Rotax but good fun all the same. I am researching the other historical aspects of this site and putting a vid together about them nothing to do with karting but if possible i would like to use a couple of short clips from this footage to show what has taken place on the site in recent history, i will credit you for the footage and provide a link to your site if its something your ok with ?
If only F1 today was as exciting as this instead of boring pouting Hamilton and his fkn cronies. Awesome vid with more overtakes in a race than shitfest F1 in 5 years LOL.
Fair play for uploading this video. It brings back memories of racing a 100cc class 1 kart never mind a 250 superkart. I was always impressed seeing so many international karters at the 'World Cup', I would have travelled 1½ hours to the circuit never mind travelling from Sweden !!! Good times.
Reutemann didn't win the 1981 F1 world championship because of three reasons: 1. This race not counting for the championship. 2. Bernie Ecclestone achieved a new contract in the middle of the season changing Michelin for Goodyear for the majority of the teams including Brabham and Williams. At that point with Michelin Williams was way better than Brabham. With Goodyear tyres it'll never be the same. 3. The mistake Reutemann made on the qualy of the last race in Las Vegas. The race was run on saturday. So thursday was Q1 and Reutemann had the best time of the session. On friday it was tooo hot so it was impossible to improve times. That meant Reutemann's best time it was the pole. However Reutemann on the last minutes of the qualy session that friday afternoon went out to the track once again and found Piquet very slow outside one corner. Reutemann couldn't be able to avoid the Brabham and broke the left front suspension of his Williams. He returned to the pits and the team repared the issue but Reutemann felt the perfect balanced car he got has completely gone. So he had no choice and had to change his car for the spare car which was other chasis and got serious troubles on its gearbox. That's why Reutemann was so bad during the race. He got troubles to put second and third gear all over the race. So with that fantastic and perfect balanced Williams on which Reutemann achieved the pole he would be world champion for sure all the way he just got to end the race ahead of Piquet who ended up just on fifth position that race.
@@thethirdman225 Fastest lap times in the dry around the original 2.927 mile lap (without the Woodcote chiicane),was 1min 29 seconds,118mph average. Around 140mph on the Hanger straight.
@@nicholasellis5965 My point was that it's lap times that are importand. Sure, you like to have good speed on the straights but not if it costs you somewhere else so lap times are the ultimate arbiter. So a speedo is unimportant.
@@thethirdman225 Back in the 1980`s gearbox karts had an electronic rev counter only ,no data-loggers back then. (I was directly involved with gearbox karting for 9 years from 1977-`85).My reply was mainly aimed at the people on here who are unfamiliar with karting.I fully understand your comment about consistant lap times,i raced cars myself for 12 years. At Silverstone in the 1970`s/`80`s even in the top 250 International Superkarts, really accurate timing was pretty difficult as no karts carried transponders back then. The timekeepers would often only take lap times of front-runners,with some quick laps invariably getting missed. The karts lap times at Silverstone`s (3 mile lap) were often affected by wind-direction or ambient conditions which did make a difference.Karts did not have the power outputs as seen in the current gearbox 2-stroke engines.Gearing for a long circuit was critical, often needing fine tuning over the weekend as weather, temperature and wind direction altered.Lap times could alter race to race as engines, carburettors, gearing and tyres were adjusted to suit the circuit and conditions,no `sealed` engines back then and all classes were aircooled motors until 250 Int.allowed watercooling in 1981.The aircooled engines were generally less reliable and more affected by ambient conditions which did affect lap times. However the short circuit karting scene was always about a good handling, well set-up chassis which gave the driver confidence allowing corner speed to be carried onto the straights.Long circuits needed plenty of horsepower and a well balanced crank.Often 250 International (Superkarts) top speeds were suprisingly low around 130-140mph probably due to a larger frontal area which compared with a racing motorcycle of the same engine capacity, the bikes top speeds were usually greater.Karts have always had much higher cornering speeds than most bikes and a lot of cars.
@@lukewylde67 If Williams hadn't sabotaged Reutemann's car in Las Vegas, Lole would have been champion without any discussion... Said this by Piquet himself. Checkmate.
@@fedecasares If, if, if, there is no evidence that Williams sabotaged him, sadly we know F. Wiliams' philosophy regarding his drivers well, and Alan Jones was more liked by Frank. There is no doubt that Reuteman also deserved to win the world championship, but Piquet also deserved it in 1980, but then Jones won.
I grew up on this, anyone remember Martin Merrit who raced with Reg Gange and Hermitite. My Dad raced with them in that era. Long circuit racing in the late seventies early eighties was a sight and smell to behold.
Martin Hines a super proffesional but an incredible abasador for the sport. I had the priviledge racing a few times in races with him and so many others in the 70’s. Miss those times.
