@@Cullens_Workshop I have an old concrete angel that I want to make a mold of to create more of them. Do I need to use a releasing agent on the original piece before I apply my four coats of Smooth-On 25? Thank you
@@earthdogpj1 yep some mold release would be a good idea. You may also want to seal it as well depending on how porous the statue is. Some construction folk will use smooth on products to recreate frie places, Ceiling Medallions, and other historical decorative pieces. the smooth on channel also has tons of videos on a lot of cool projects. www.youtube.com/@smoothon/videos
Great video. My wife really hates my leather being "out" as it looks messy. Your idea of turning the shelf sideways and closing it in is a good option. Thanks!
@@Cullens_Workshop also learned don't Store silicone above 75 degrees environmens, or work with it when it's hot. Will cure very fast not working time. Like in 2 minutes
Hi, Great tutorial. Very much appreciated! I was wondering if to use Plasti Paste 2 together with fiberglass.. Will that work? To give extra strength. Or is the PP2 enough on it's own? &How many trial units will do for a human sized face mask (+with goat horns)? Doing a Venetian style Faun mask. Thanks! Have a great day🤟🏻
Thank you for your content! Excellent work and helpful tips! I wanted to mention that I think the filters that you’re using are not for VOCs. I could be wrong but I thought it would be worth saying. I e worked with a lot of resin and use the 3M 6001 filters for organic vapors
Mold Max Stroke is one. It's a tin cure silicone, made by smooth-on as well. It's also measured out by weight so you'll want a scale for best results. But it's about half the price of a platinum silicone like rebound. theengineerguy.com/mold-max-stroke/
I had an old no liner tan safari jacket that I was going to throw out so I thought to experiment on with wax. I used pure bees wax and brushed it on like you. Used a hair dryer to melt it in because i couldn't find my heat gun. I shouldn't have been but was genuinely shocked at how stiff it was, and blotchy. I am still working on getting as uniform an appearance as I can. Not sure I will keep it even after all the work.
Get an old iron and rub the wax onto the fabric “dry” then iron it in and repeat till uniform, also found a mixture of around 1/4 mineral oil/paraffin oil to 3/4 wax melted together, it’s less stiff and doesn’t leave a residue on the skin or inner layers either

Don't use Naphtha! It has serious "Health Issues", which cause irreversible conditions. Use odourless Turpinode, it has less concerns for your health and always when using solvents on your sculptures, be in a well ventilated area. Temporary use of masks doesn't cut it. The odor is still present in your sculpture and in the air.
This is an old video so I may not get a response. I have a question, my duster ha leather on the shoulders. Is it ok if i rub this same stuff on the leather to while I m doing the cotton? If you get this and can let me know i would be greatful. Dave
Depends on the type of leather and what you're goals are. If you looking for a conditioning oil over water proofing I'd use some conditioning oil. amzn.to/3PxpVOm or some neets foot oil amzn.to/3PWb7u6. But you can use wax on suede and veg tan leather it will darken the leather a lot and stiffen it as well. Sno-Seal amzn.to/3PZk5XB is also another option, I feel like it works just as well as wax, but leaves the leather more flexible.
One other question I have that I can’t seem to find an answer to is, using Monster Clay Medium and heating to be able to easily shape with hands, fingers & small spoon shaped tool, how long will the clay stay in that malleable state before hardening to having to scrape to shape?
it's gonna depend on the ambient temp of the room. what I usually do is scoop the soft liquidy clay into a silicon meatloaf tray what will give it space too cool. That will usually last about an hour. clay on the model will vary based on thickness. but you can hit it with a heat gun, which warms the clay on a deeper level than the butane torch which just heats the surface.
great vid! Also nice tip with the wood sculpting tool. Also good to hear it took 4 hours, I kept hearing it usually takes an hour and was wondering why mine took 5 hours to do
Thank you for this. I'm an odd size, and found an old but well-kept second hand oilskin that fits me at a flea market that I need to refinish. Very helpful of you, so, thank you very much.
@@Cullens_Workshop Well, Google has done it again. I had no idea there was a response to that comment until I just happened to come back and watch this video again. Thank you very much for the information!!
What do you mean greasy? If there’s too much wax left over you can heat it up again on the fabric and rub it in with a cloth. Doing that will also absorb any extra.
You don't remove the clay. you're next step would be to add silicone to it to create a negative of the object. there's a couple options depending on your mask shape. you can create a one peice mold or a multi part mold. like this ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-M4cNW-tANWw.html

Excellent video, may I suggest using an old sponge instead of the brush, I used to use a brush but found a good sponge works the wax into the cloth a lot easier with a lot less waste. Great informative videoa.
Really enjoyed your vid - great coverage and very helpful. Can I ask what the durability has been like of Rebound 25 and do you have any experience with Mold Max 30? Thanks
So mold max is a pourable silicone and wouldn’t be ideal for a the first couple layers of a brush on application. It’s also tin cured compared to mold Star which is platinum cured. It’s still a great product, and very helpful in making poured molds. www.smooth-on.com/support/faq/184/
