If that 427 "Cammer" engine was used in factory production cars, the way I understand your question, there would be so many lawsuits from the devastation that would be caused. If you look at what's going on with this Chrysler "Hellcat" for one, these kids are out there killing themselves in them. It would have many negatives and the engine would be pretty much non existent, I could be wrong but there's many others who have yet to share thoughts. I really enjoyed your show and I'm going to be a new subscriber, thanks for sharing with all of us.

I saw a lot of these cars at Cordova, and Neita Dragstrip ( Now Cedar Falls ) In Iowa in 1969 and 1970. And some at Cornhusker Raceway Park in Nebraska. The Flying Dutchman Dodge Charger was one of my favorites. I still have the ticket stubs.

Grew up in Sunland and spent many memorable weekends here! Bitter sweet memories now, just loved " Big John Mazmanion!" Was able to pass on the drag racing thrills to my son and many of friends!

The 351C was the most handicapped engine in PS racing history and was the engine that pushed the sanctioning body to go to the 500 in³ rule. Then after a few years of development, Bob's BOSS 429s gave him 5 championships in a row and opened the door for GM to introduce the DRCE and that was the end of actual Pro STOCK racing.

Ohio George Montgomery successfully raced a twin turbo BOSS 429 Gasser that was so much faster on the back half, the 69 Mustang was banned from competition in 1975.

Money Money Money!!!! That’s what happened to PRO Stock racing, as well as the rest of drag racing. Back day the cars would come into the racing facility on open trailers usually towed by pickup trucks. Those days are long gone. Class racing became the “How fast can you afford to go” racing! Years ago I found out my pockets weren’t nearly deep enough to race with a bunch of rich boys. That’s why at 70 years old I’m still having fun bracket racing.

Thanks for your great videos. In 1965 I was a junior in high school and started going to the drag races at Alton dragway and continue to go for many years. Forget the year but Don Garlits broke 200 mph barrier at that strip. Those were the great days. Can't stand what NHRA drag racing has become. Too homogenized and sterile.

From my first drag race at San Fernando Drag strip driving a ‘62 Corvair, as a very nervous 17 year old I launched in 2nd gear, to toasting a 389cu GTO driving a ‘68 built 396cu Chevelle at Lions Drag Strip I loved this era in the NHRA.

I grew up on drag racing starting about 1960. I agree with your commentary. I can't even watch it on TV. What's up with, jump out of your car, put on a logo cap and hold a can of Mello Yello? ...and talk talk talk.

Snapped half shafts were quite common, back in the day - or snapping UJ’s making the drive shaft enter the cabin, or giving the car a rear end wheelie. Live long enough, I’m 76, and you’ve seen it all ! 😁👍🏼

Slight correction. Jack Coonrod is from Vancouver Washington even though Portland Ore. is painted under his name on the car. There is no such place as Portland WA. Portland Oregon has Portland International Raceway which used to host NHRA events back in the day. The Top Fuel National events were eventually shut down because of noise complaints from the local neighborhoods but the road racing course and drag strip are still in use today. The Willis has survived to this day and still looks just like it does in the pictures. I don’t know that it has been raced competitively in decades but I did see it at the weekly cruise in at PIR not long ago.
