as sick as this was, does it even count when you have draft? lol on a completetly different sidenote look at his belt flapping in the wind and how is settles when hes behind another car. aero is just so interesting man
Old video, but fantastic. Thank you sharing it. I'm preparing to put my order in for one this year. What a great series to run in. Good driving by the leader to keep you behind.
alexmirea.ro thanks for watching and feedback. Bit more context - Track was wet after heavy rain, which had just stopped, my car was fully trimmed on aero and dry setup, there are three engine classes racing (v8, 1500 (mine), 1340) and we are all running stock motors from Radical. On slicks in the wet but drying track, pretty cold, a lot of competitors were being cautious to feel for grip on those first few laps. Started so far back (issue in qualifying) I had to go for it from the start. Won this race but came third in next race that weekend.
You won, right? Is it a draft that sets up passes like that? The Atom must generate a load of turbulence to create that strong a draft. I race SRF3 and we use the draft a lot, but it doesn't create that much speed differential. I also assume there's a 6th gear but too tall to shift at the end of the straights?
Yes, got a good draft coming out of Hogs Pen and passed for the win right on the line. Never get out of 5th gear as the aero drag increases quite a bit above 100 and never make it to 6th (at VIR or Road Atlanta). The atom races definitely have a strong draft effect which as you know from SRF3 can be used to well when racing, to time passes.
It was really helpful to have the Porsche tail lights ahead to get a better sense of the track at night, first time racing there in the dark...before passing them and winning the race.
I was flagging the corner (Turn 6). Don't know how you kept at least one wheel on. Race control called and said they were all cheering because of the number of belly slaps without losing it. Great driving. You sure got my attention.
flaggerjohn-scca first of all thank you for keeping us safe on track, and all the hours (including just getting to the track and home again) you put in. It’s much appreciated and not recognized enough. Thanks for the feedback, funny re race radio. I had my eyes fixed on the car ahead as I was trying to take a run up to the corkscrew at him and it all happened fast but just kept my foot in and eyes up!
Awesome stuff! I got to just sit in a Radical at VIR this summer and I Immediately wanted one. Can you PM me maybe some info on the series you race in and cost associated with participation? Would love to get involved in a few years time.
Joshua Phillips Thanks Joshua. Best person to talk with is Danyel at Wisko Racing. His email is Danyel.Torres@Wiskoracing.com - he will be able to give you the full picture of races, costs and so on. Good luck! Racing these cars is epic, and as a spec series beyond setup its driver versus driver.
Absolutely amazing lap! Being there was incredible watching it happen in real time. Watching it again, it still sends chills down my spine. Just awesome driving!
Ken Jr Probably the angle of the camera from this race, the fit in the car is very good for me with halo and rollbars to the side and across the top. It does look like the seat isnt deep enough in the view I agree, which is quite different from how it is in the car.
Austin Green It's very easy to get started through a Radical dealer depending upon where you live. The North American Radical Master championship just kicked off at Road Atlanta, and is in Watkins Glen next in two weeks. Here is the report from Road Atlanta www.radicalsportscars.com/news/norways-olsen-one-of-many-standouts-at-road-atlanta/ I race with Wisko Racing (wiskoracing.com) and they can definitely point you in the right direction. Sounds like you've already completed the work to get a competition license which is great.
