Hi there 👋🏻 🙂 Thank you for passing by! I'm all about exploring and learning about life and its challenges. I'm a seeker, adventurer, and student of life. Topics I'm exploring in this channel are personal development, travel, languages, my learnings, thoughts, and struggles while navigating myself in today's fast-paced world.
That´s why the title is "3 HIDDEN BEACHES" and not "family-friendly beaches with easy access". And yes, people are willing to drive 1h and walk for another 40 minutes because they are amazing and worth it. Cheers!
Firstly, Vidigal is nowhere near the outskirts of Rio, even if it is on the edges of the South Zone. Secondly, the safest favela is Tavares Bastos in Catete, for the simple reason that they host the HQ of the BOPE police unit and as a result, do not have a drug gang there. Who did you pay for the hike? There's never been a charge for that when I have visited.
@@patrickvogel Interesting. I've been up there a number of times an no-one ever asked us for anything, apart from paying the mototaxi, of course. I'd be inclined to think that it may have been a hustler of some form as it wouldn't even be clear who would have the authority to be charging for entrance there (residents association or city Council).
You lived in Madrid for a year and now live in Barcelona right? Can you explain why you left madrid for palma, and why you settled on barcelona after all?
Yeah, sure. I left Madrid for Palma because of the opportunity to work in real estate on the island. I settled in Barcelona because I wanted to live in a city that offers a great lifestyle year-round. Palma doesn't provide that. Madrid is good but has no access to the sea, summers are too hot and winters are too cold. Barcelona is the sweet spot
I just felt right of nowhere on your channel and I have to say that you are completely right about the importance of new challenges in life… I am in a period of my timelife that I know I really need to go far away from my comfort place and family house even if I love them so much…and as you said everything is only an experience. We can come back anytime if it does not work. Thanks you for your words and content. I needed it so much right now 🙏
Thank you, Juliette! How high are the odds of you landing here? With a platform flooded with videos. Isn't that amazing? I'm happy that you could relate to my video. And I'm even more happy that it was helpful! Always keep moving! All the best!
Time lapse / interval modes are also incredibly bad. The battery life in these modes is highly similar to continuous recording, which makes it useless for these use cases... It's impossible to record a time lapse of even a single hour of biking/hiking. I find this ridiculous, and their official replies to questions about timelapse battery life basically ignore the rl actual question and just state the basic battery life for recording, which I think tries to hide the fact of how bad they are for timelapse. But what I find the most disgusting is that virtually all videos about Insta360 products are obviously paid ads. It's impossible to trust any "reviews", which in my eyes make the company quite toxic and makes it much more difficult to consider buying their products. If I can't find balanced information and can't establish facts, I can't make a purchase decision.
What do you think about the anti-foreigner protests in Barcelona? I found it shocking to see that ordinary people, families with children eating dinner were targeted and sprayed with water and the signs being carried by protestors were telling people to go home, with images of a plane and saying ´Tourists go home! Expats too!´ The level of xenophobia is only increasing and is what I felt daily when I lived in Mallorca. These so-called protesters are actually harassing people and the police don´t seem to be doing anything about it. Also, the government allows the numbers of tourists and foreigners and expats that they allow, so it is not the fault of the foreigners! Would the airlines and hotels and all other businesses that make money from foreigners like to give up that revenue? Who is stopping them from reducing the number of foreigners that come to Spain? The government certainly isn´t! They are very happy to rake in the cash and the taxes. And who is it that puts the rent prices up? Greedy landlords and owners! Nothing to do with the foreigners, and yet the foreigners are targeted and subjected to hostility and aggression. Personally, I think the behaviour of these protestors is hateful and even racist. More protests are planned in Mallorca and there have been some in Malaga. I hope they don´t copy the behaviour of protesters in Barcelona.
I can understand those protests from a local perspective. Rents are incredibly high here. But it's not the tourist's fault. They just want to enjoy their holidays in a beautiful place. It's something the government of Catalunya needs to regulate as you say rightfully!
I find that one major reason people get their phones out in public is because they feel self-conscious when they are on their own and it´s become acceptable to just stare at your phone so that people don´t look at you and just leave you alone. This is also a major reason for why people like to wear sunglasses and/or headphones in public.
some activities that make me forget about my phone are as follows: cleaning my apartment, organizing my stuff, planning my next trip, planning what healthy food to buy and what I am going to make with it, reflecting on the motivations of people and why said said or did things that upset me and coming up with a plan of action on how to deal with people with negative behaviours and how to remove them from my life, talking to friends.
Happy that you've found your way to disconnect from the phone and connect with yourself. Activities that help us enter a "flow state" can help. And things that give us quick and nice results like in the case of cleaning or organizing. Often with movement involved is always good. Once putting things in order usually our mind benefits from it.
Wait, so you left Rio? I agree that travel brings new perspectives, but as you said, it´s meeting people who have different ways of thinking that is the most valuable thing. It makes you realize first of all, that there are different ways of thinking, of doing, and of being. Many times, when you stay in one place with the same set of people, you can start to believe that there is only one way of thinking, of doing things, and of being and become trapped in a mindset that has in many ways been imposed onto you without your knowledge or realization. This is why in the past, books, music, art, movies, and chance meetings with people visiting from other places were the main ways that people could catch a glimpse of the wider world. Now, many of us have access to the internet, and I do believe that this is the main reason why young people today and are so much more open-minded. Education is not just about degrees. So much of what I learn today is from videos like this one on the internet. The only thing is, we have to be very careful about the content we consume and to make sure we vet the sources and agendas behind particular content that is produced.
Yes, I did. Around 1 year ago. Very wise words. I couldn't agree more with what you are saying! Thank you for spreading so much wisdom in the comment section!!! I appreciate it 🙏
@@LaChicaconSuerte-1111 So far I like it. There are always many things to do and people to meet. Geographically it is very well located as well. I can imagine staying here for a long time.
@@patrickvogel That´s great! Do you worry about crime? I keep hearing about pickpockets, muggings, burglaries, and robberies in Barcelona. I recently visited Alicante and Valencia and really liked both, but Barcelona has a really great vibe!
All kinds of protective cases for the safe and display and even lens are sold very cheaply. Everything can be broken, this is your mistake. so small and can stick to anywhere, the camera is only in this brand. What more do you want? I think you keep using the cigarette packed -sized cameras.
I think this video was very refreshing and helpful. It’s good to get another perspective and see the negatives so you know what to avoid when using it..d
Thanks man. Appreciate it. Got a lot of critics because of it so it is refreshing to know that it could give you value. It's not about agreeing with everything but about being aware of everything so one can take the best decision for oneself. Cheers!
Thank you so much, I am very much thinking about spending a month or two in Majorca in Spring next year. I'll be bringing my dog. I run a business back in the UK, but could work from an Air b n b type accommodation in majorca once or twice a year. I was interested in your note about taxes. I work from a computer only, would I be liable to pay the 300 euro tax?
Thanks, Patrick. I have that very same feeling of wasted time scrolling down, even when I'm tired and ready to sleep. That addiction triggers the need to watch one last video, and then I'm caught in infinite scrolling for hours. In the end, it's nothing more than wasted energy and time.
Absolutely true my friend. It's just too much. Our time on this planet is too precious to spend too much of it in front of the screen consuming things that don't give us value.
It felt nice to disconnect myself from the internet for a while. But I have to say it was not that difficult, since today is Sunday. The real challenge begins tomorrow :) Thanks for the heads up!
Great to hear my friend! Yes, the challenge to not get sucked into the screens within the week where we are more keen to distract ourselves! Good luck :)
Thank you that helps this newbie in Colorado USA. I think the Amazonbasics will be fine for learning fir a long time. It's $13 dollars US. I spend more than that on a drink. =)
I also think it was important for me to accept where I am. The thoughts that kept coming up like “I should be this, I should be here, I should do that, I should own this…” very toxic thoughts. I’m right where the Universe wants and needs me to be. ❤️
Yeah, what you are talking about is the pressure we put on ourselves. The "should". But who is coming up with these standards in the first place? Everyone's timeline is different. I think if we stay curious and do the things we like that give us joy, we'll live a happy and fulfilled life. And if these things change over time, that's ok. There is no need to be attached to old wants or desires if they don't give us the same joy today. Better to let them go and embrace the new things
You know why a lot of Mallorcans don't want to connect with foreigners? In most cases (obviously not all) foreigners don't bother learning the local language, often they come from more affluent countries and come to Mallorca to buy property as a second residence or a holiday let, bumping up the market prices and making it harder for locals to be able to afford to buy or even rent in their own home. There is currently a huge movement pushing back against gentrification and massification of tourism by local groups who have had enough of being priced out of their own land. The worst affliction are corrupt politicians hand in hand with hotel mafias prostituting the islands for profit and of course cruises. Thank you for taking the time to share your view and experience
This is exactly the state I'm in currently. I went through a lot of bereavement and loss and have felt lost. I've found mysrlf visiting places I used to live or frequent to try to process memories, make peace with things and work out what to do. I've never felt more stumped in my life before. Today was a hard day, I felt exhausted, cancelled plans and cried a lot. Grieving is hard. I hope that i can figure out some kind of path to take as I dont just want to float around my old areas like a ghost who can't accept the passage of time.
I don't know what exactly you are going through Kate, but I want you to know that things will be better again. There is light at the end of the tunnel. It will take some time. There will be a lot of growth after this phase. Is there anything you can do to bring some more joy back into your life?
@@patrickvogel Thank you. I am not really sure what would bring me joy at the moment but I will have a think about that as I currently feel joyless and very low. I've been trying to write out my goals and an action plan to change my life but the depression and fatigue have been bad lately. Thanks for your kind words.
Amazing video man, you're both an very smart man and an incredible human being! Keep going from strength to strength and keep sharing thoughts such as this, it's very useful and powerful
