I collect, preserve, and use vintage hockey goalie equipment, obviously with special emphasis on Cooper-Weeks (pre-1971), Cooper Canada (1971-1990), and Cooper (Canstar - 1991-1995) gear. Nearly my entire massive collection is from 1995 and older.
I never played hockey or skated as a kid, and only started in late 2016 when I first strapped on a set of pads for some fun on the ice with the family. A couple months later I did it again, and it was at that point I made the decision to keep going with it. I rented private ice time, I did sticks-and-pucks sessions, I did some 'drop in' hockey..and then in Summer of 2017 I signed up to be a sub in a rather large adult program.
I post game videos and also some vintage gear repair/restoration videos. Be sure to also follow me on Instagram (@TheCooperGoalie) since I post a lot of photos and info about the collection there regularly.
I had a set of Cooper Reactor 1 pads, blocker, and catcher when I was younger. I started playing in 1991, and I first wore vintage brown cooper's the league had before I had my own set. They were all black with a blue triangle with the 1 inside. I have poster size photos of me when I was playing with them. My next set was Bauer Reactors 3. They were blue and while. I'm using Vaughn V3 full set right now (all blue with black), but I'm getting a newer Vaughn V9 set soon. This will be my first set with all white with black. I love those old Cooper pads, though. My knees don't like them anymore.
The old-timey pads you play in were made with this technique in mind. Trying this in a modern pad means those pesky shooters have lots of puck shaped gaps to shoot at.
I’m an old school goalie that has incorporated the butterfly to my repertoire, but I totally agree with you . The stand up approach on a corner shot leaves absolutely nothing to a shooter, compared to RVH , where the top corner is vulnerable . Plus it’s a lot easier on your hips and knees 😂 And you still can move for a shot from the slot … just one strong push and you’re there …
great collections , this basement is a church for a stand up goalie :) , i find a pair of a most new bauer supreme flex the same of ed belfour , going too use them soon :)
i use the pocket 2 and i'm pissed with the audio but i've come to live with it. there is an available audio adapter but i'm still weighing to buy it or not.
Does this product and process work on the materials pads are made of today! I have a pair of Bauer Vapors that I’d like to make all white (currently blue and white in 40/60 proportions)
This isn’t really for that kind of need. This is a process for sprucing up really beat down synthetic pads. There’s nothing like this that will work to change the colors like you want. Most people use pad wrap for that kind of thing.
So funny, my husband is Bernie Wolfe and I just showed him the video and he said spot on with most of the equipment except the arms and belly pad. His provided far less protection. All the stuff in the Caps goalie bag in our basement!!!! Except his flag mast in The Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto so we have a copy. We would love to share video with grandkids, is that possible. thanks, Patsy Wolfe
Patsy, thank you for leaving this comment and showing the video to Bernie. That really made my day. You can feel free to share the link to the video with the family! Hopefully I did him justice with this kit!
Good job on the video! Really appreciate you coming out to tend in the cold!! Not an easy job, for sure! I like how you mixed in some game action with the gear details.
scored on by your own guy i always put my stick to cover that never fully trust your own guys with the puck sooner or later they will screw up and score on you.
I don't sell very often at all. Purchases are made from all over. I search the internet sites all the time. I go to antique markets, thrift stores, etc.
I look everywhere. All the online resale options (ebay, craigslist, facebook, etc etc), plus I check used sporting good stores (like Play It Again Sports), thrift stores, consigment stores, antiques stores, etc.
