Just an average runner taking on above average challenges.
Last year I competed my first ever marathon (Virtual London Marathon), obviously next thing to do is a 50K Ultra! The race I'm taking part in is the North Downs Ridge on 1st of May, so please feel free to subscribe and follow my journey hear.
Was that Compede? It's the devil! Get sterile needles, tiny alcohol wipes, fleecy web and KT tape. And you missed the last Check Point! My one chance at fame 😂
Cheers Bradley, I was definitely lucky with the weather and I was pretty pleased with the time. It’s all going in the right direction for a PB one day soon 🤛
Great video! I found the first 18 miles to be good but from Hove it was vile! Just waiting for the finish line, but those roads up and down Hove were a killer. Something about seeing all the runners ahead in one straight line made it nasty! Still would do again! Unbelievable experience
Yes, I saw a lot of people stretching out around that area too. That was the point of the race I gave up on the PB, and went into survival mode 😂 Well done to you for Sunday too 👏
@Ijustkeptrunning that was my first ever marathon, I felt OK until about 18 miles then my hammy, calves and ankles started really hurting. Amazing experience though
Top run James and well done for capturing the atmosphere. Nice to meet you on the walk to Preston Park. I set out way too quickly for the hills then struggled at Madeira Drive. Still happy with a 3h58m finish and learned something (mainly that marathons are flipping hard!) Looking forward to seeing Reykjavik - enjoy!
Great to meet you too, So glad you managed a good time on your first official marathon 🎉🎉. Hopefully catch you at some future marathon events, that’s if it hasn’t put you off for life 😂
It was tough around Hove. Seemed to go on for ever! My 14th marathon and I’d put in my top 3 in terms of a mental challenge - the other 2 being a marathon in the empty Saudi Arabian desert in 2002 and one in the drab suburbs of Belgrade back in 2006.
@@Ijustkeptrunning that should be a good one. I’ve signed up (provisionally) for North Down Way 100m in August. Let’s how my training goes. Rest and recovery and have another great run in Iceland 🙌
Epic racing here, you might not have got the PB but with the issues youve had and going off too quickly still smashed it. few more weeks until the Reykjavik Marathon and see how you get on. time to recover and go again
Cheers again Bradley. If you offered me that time before the race, I’d have snapped your hand off, so I’ve got to be pleased. Now a bit of R&R before Iceland 😊
I can relate with the professional stretching 😂I have been doing some turbo training too to supplement the running, and have been finding it quite good. thanks for the recap!
Yeah, I think I’m at an age where I need to mix up the training a bit, and the turbo training is a great addition, I’m really enjoying a bit of Zwift at the moment (not that I’m any good 😂)
Yeah, the niggles just keep on coming 😭. Not the greatest prep but hopefully done enough to put in a decent performance on race day. I’ll probably sign up for the sheer 42k, but I’ll probably do the half marathon as I have a long wedding to shoot the day before. (Not sure I’ll be in the mood for a full marathon 🥵)
@@Ijustkeptrunning the joys of running mate 🤣 I am sure you will put down a solid performance James. 💪 Good call on the sheer 21k that's also a superb race. Look forward to seeing you there mate! 😎🤘
a nice week of training here. i guess cutting back does help a little. not too long to go until the big day and looking forward to see how you get on :-)
Nice one James, great to see all the variation in your training, looking good for Brighton! Will keep an eye out for you out there, planning on going down to watch 😃
Thank you, yeah it’s so frustrating and I’m trying not to sound like a complete hypochondriac 😂, but going to give myself a few days complete rest from running to make sure I’m tip top for the next long run.
Ran that area 9 days back for Freedom racings NDW 50K, recognised those particular fallen trees & navigating them aha between White Down Lane and Ranmore common. What an area it is once the mist clears 🤟keep up the training, nice one
Yeah, back on the bike again today just Incase. It’s basically the NDR50 but a stunning route for sure. Sorry, won’t be down for the GTR run tonight for obvious reasons and the fact I can’t find my decent head torch 😭.
Despite the dodgy hamstring you still managed to pack in some decent training mate. Big kudos! That North Downs Way looks like a good trail I might have to get out there at some point 🤪
