Clearly a talented boy treble. Great diction, but less affectation and more consistency would be better IMO. I wonder who has taught him the vibrato style more usually associated with sopranos. And both pieces are scored for more than one treble line, so this hardly makes the most of them. Poor choices.
OH MY GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!! The moment when he opened his month....... I saw an angel. Too beautiful and perfect... Laurence!! What a special voice!!!! Not every boy soprano has this talent and gift
Ah, what a delight to see him transforming into, hopefully, as magnificent an adult singer as he was a boy soprano. Watch that voice, Mr. Laurence - want to see you at the ROH, not Songs of Praise !
Laurence justifies being described as "one of the best boy sopranos of his generation" (I would say of all time). And the "alto" soloist is pretty good too! What is HIS name?
Exceptional talent. I'm not a fan of excessive vibrato either, but I feel the extent to which he uses it in this recording is very appropriate for the piece. (At least for the recit part, I too might prefer a straight tone for the longer notes in O for the Wings.) It is a pity the choir cannot stay even remotely in pitch, makes it very difficult to listen through.
Wonderful to hear Laurence perform again. Many of his peers have moved on to lower voices so it was nice to hear his magnificent treble voice is still there.
Maestro Laurence - blessed with a long and very, very special soprano career; look forward to seeing you as bass/baritone, even, God forbid (!), a tenor, at the RFH in 10 years.
A magnificent voice which in this recording exhibits the maturity that' comes with age. It is a voice that just demands your absolute attention. A true gift from god and thank you Lawrance and your family for sharing it's beauty and magnificence with the wider public.
