If you have the drag too tight too soon, you break off early or tire the fish if it doesn't. If you have it too loose too soon, you get spooled. No coming back if you get spooled. Lock those drags down early in a fight.
Have always wondered if you could paddle out the reel drop the anchor and hooks and then have it unwind as you row back to shore save some of the drag in the water 😂 never been game enough to actually try it though 😅
