I do not condone violence. That is just wrong. I coached softball from 8u-14u. Some umpires are good, but some are there only for the money and don’t put the time in to know the rules. Examples: Calling a girl out on a foul tip caught by the catcher with less than 2 strikes is wrong. Calling a girl safe because the fielder touched 1B(after diving) with her hand instead of her foot, because according to the umpire she had to touch the base with her foot. Calling a runner safe after she was clearly tagged because somehow the umpire saw the ball “spinning in the glove” while she was tagged, even though the the glove was closed and admittedly she had control, but it was spinning. Calling a home run foul because he mixed up the foul pole and the scoreboard even though the other umpire, and everyone one there said it was fair, including the other coach. Changing a call because they were intimidated by the other coaches. Home plate umpire ducking/flinching on every single pitch. Field umpire having no idea where to stand on the field and calling plays at first from near 3B with no one on base. Calling and infield fly on a fly ball in the left-center gap that no one was near. Most umpires have no idea how much work these girls put in. They only see the games. They don’t realize the the hours of practice and lessons these girls put in every week. The don’t realize the amount of money the parents pay in order for their kids to play. Most umps need to be better at their jobs. They need to know the rules, and they need to put their egos aside. This is not about them, it’s about the players.
Have you tried the line drive pro trainer? It’s basically a chuckit that you attach to the barrel of your bat. I got one years ago when it was much cheaper, but now the price has gotten too high. I like it because if found the chuckit too light and preferred using a real bat.

I remember reading the ESPN article when it came out before the WCWS. Then I had the opportunity to meet her and hear her tell her story at a Jen Schroeder event my daughter attended. The article was impactful enough but then being able to hear her tell the story in person was awesome.

Ashley love the chair drill we run several reps from a tall bucket and then a lower bucket. a twist to our drill is we ask our girls to lift their front foot and hold before they push into launch position so they can really feel the weight in the back leg.
