I still don't understand why she gave up singing and went into dull drama. It's almost as if something had gone wrong with her voice and she had to give up.
She is also a very serious and wonderful actor - going to RADA after the musicals and what a trajectory since then! So many films and projects, including Wild Rose and an Oscar nomination for The Lost Daughter - and in June she will release For All the Days That Tear the Heart - if The Eagle and the Dove is any indication it will be stunning. What a phenomenon she is,
Dull dramatic??? I didn't even know who she was but was compelled to find out from the goose pimples after her performance in Taboo. My god she will have an Oscar or Bafta by next year
LOVE IT! my dad doesnt like Jess and he heard this and asked if it was elaine page which i think is a bit of a complimant from someone who doesnt like her! i think she is amazing in this!!!!
Not being a musician it seems to me that this is pitched at a higher key than either the quality IDA sing-off or the ordinary SuBo effort. Much the better for it.
Roger, thanks so much for posting this. I missed the Monday night RTE show. Yet another outstanding JNB track for my Jessie-laden Ipod - as she takes the softer elements and builds to kick arse at 03:41 - goose-bumps. Just over a year on from IDA, what a developing star we have.
The young spark of stardom, carefully nurtured, will be bright for years to come. Probably the most talented and genuine 18y old for many years. The gift of stillness, as Barry put it. A rare gift. It pulls you in. Eva Cassidy had it. And so does Jessie. Matching Eva Cassidy and Judy Garland at 18. If that's not the definition of a star, I frankly don't know what is.
Roger, I understand your point but, more accurately, she turned into Nancy in singing the first two bars. Her opening bars of ALAHNM were the highlight of the whole of the IDA competition for me.
