I just came across your site and liked your video very much👍 Can you tell me if you pre-baited the spot you’re fishing? if so, what do you normally use to pre-bait Thanks Joe
Good question! I pre-baited one day before and after every session for this video. What I bait with depends on what I am fishing with. Sweet corn and sweet feed are good cheap choices and boilies are good to avoid smaller fish eating everything. Thanks for watching!
@@EvanCartabianoGreat video! I decided to rewatch it because it's loaded with easy to understand ideas and explanations👍 Quick question: I've been doing a ton of YT research into Winter carp fishing/baits (I use UK gear and rigs and this is my first winter attempting carp fishing). I decided to try chopped worms in a PVA Bag as you showed on your video. Unfortunately, re: ground bait and/or PVA bag ingredients to go along with the worms, I’m having a lot of difficulty finding a good ground bait that can be shipped to the US (BCT is always “out of stock”)! Also, any thoughts on ground bait available to the US? Which do you recommend is best to use with worms while fishing US waters? Thanks so much. Joe (old user name @josephquinn7356)
The good thing about this is you can really use any ground/method/stick/bag mix that you might normally use, just make sure it's on the dry side to keep the worm from melting the bag too much. I just checked BCT and the Munch Baits Cream Seed stick mix is in stock - a favorite of mine that works well in solid bags. You can also add ground up boilies and/or add pellets/panko/grits/etc. One thing that can really boost it is the Bloodworm Complex, either mixed in or injected into the bag. Its PVA safe and compliments worms exceptionally well. www.bigcarptackle.com/munch-baits-bloodworm-complex-500ml.html What part of the country are you fishing?
@@EvanCartabiano Thanks for the suggestions and for getting back to my comment so quickly. I live (& Fish) in New Jersey (primarily within 50 miles or so of Middlesex County).
Nice update,Evan. Agree those bigger fish looked ragged, wonder if there has been pollution somewhere in that stretch? Keep at it, sure some of the big fish will turn up in due course!
It's interesting that all the bigger fish had some problem, but two were external damage and one was internal infection. There are lots of locks and dams and maybe passage through these causes some of it?
How do you reckon a Krank hook would work for this rig? I'm trying to increase the aggresivity of the Slip D-Rig and the Krank hook pattern seems like it would be suited for that purpose.
I'd think it would work, but it has a very short shank. Maybe add some shrink tube to make the shank a bit longer? Let us know how it works if you try it.
Great video the worm and popup is a deadly bait combo its becoming hugely popular here in the uk as a lot of fishery owners have a ban on maggots thanks and tightlines
Love this rig and the mechanics Make a lot of sense. The one thing I don’t like, is you can’t guarantee that soft D isn’t tangling on the cast. I’d always have to use pva for reassurance, then I’d worry about aborted takes on it and if it’s tangled down there. Any thoughts?
I always use a small PVA stick on this rig (and many others) as I am paranoid about tangling. They key with the sticks is to get them on the rig in a way they melt without messing up the rig, which they can do. Maybe I should make a video on that...
Good question! There are several ways that work well. I normally use a loop to loop connection. The loop on the mainline can be anything you have confidence in - I've found that the best knot is different for different lines. I often use either a simple figure 8 loop for mono or a Bimini twist for braid. Thanks for watching!
Great to fisherman from across (the pond ) thats going for real fish haha I hope it catch and release like it is hear in the UK 🇬🇧. Love to see the younger generations getting involved with this amazing sport. Wish you the best and be lucky 👍🐟
Very nice, Evan. That will catch! Been using Stiff rigs a lots these last couple of years, makes me more comfortable that I am still fishing right where bullhead catfish continually mess with the bait...
That's good true in many places, but here in the USA they grow wild in many areas and can certainly be found by carp during high water or when they get washed in.
Just to let you know mate paste is a killer method with method feeders bagged up here in the uk.still recommend buying a feeder rod from the UK.Angling Direct.
