Im Milan, aka The Cosmescientist, and I am a cosmetic chemist helping to spread more information about cosmetics, raw materials, and formulation science. I own a cosmetic research and development lab called Keseana Cosmetic Labs. Here, we help independent beauty brands with custom cosmetic formulations, stability testing, and small-scale manufacturing.
Thanks for the tutorial. I can’t wait to see you demonstrate a moisturizing rinse out deep conditioner. That would be great for me and my dry strands. Thanks again.
Hi! Conrats on becoming a cosmetic scientist! Loving your channel so far. I have a question, are PET tests necessary with broad spectrum preservaties that are known to work well? Also, what is the shelf life of this formulation? I would really appreciate your help, as this info is not easily available. Thanks!
Hi....and thank you for the recipe!!! Just wanted to let you know that your video shows 223.5 grams of water, however your ingredients listed only shows 144 grams of water.
Thank you for this video, if it wasn’t for me, already knowing how to make body wash, I would’ve been able to understand anything you said because the music was too loud for beginners.
These videos are dope, a suggestion for future videos is to either voiceover while you’re adding the ingredients about what they do for the solution or put it on the screen to give people to interact with while watching the chemistry.👍🏾👍🏾 also the music is a bit too loud
Depends on the surfactant. Check the compatibility first. Disodium EDTA is compatible with lower pH and tetrasodium EDTA is compatible with higher pH. Our skin is acidic so tetrasodium EDTA wouldn’t work with this formula
Yes it will! I prefer not to use the powder though because it’s a very light powder and very easily can get into your airways and burn your nose. I suggest if you’re using the powdered version to also use a respirator. But yes they will work the same!
Great content. Thank you for sharing, i will be trying this over the weekend. Could you share a leave-in hair spray that both conditions, moisturizer, and maybe detangles the hair. A product that one can be used as mid week refresher
Thank you for sharing this information, especially the clear explanation. Could please make a facial serum for hyperpigmentation for oily skin. Thank you.
can you show how to make shampoo bar that is both conditioning and moisturizing on skin? Bar that would be both as a shampoo and conditioner at the same time.
Hi, how did you calculate the amount of emulsifier needed? How did you land at 9%? Also, does it really matter if you pour the oil phase into the water phase? Or can you do it the other way around?
Hey! I didn’t have any co-emulsifiers so I decided to use a higher percentage. Adding too little will cause stability issues so if you notice any separation you know you’ll need to increase the emulsifier. It also depends on how thick you want the finished product because emulsifying wax has thickening properties. It usually doesn’t matter which phase you pour into the other. That can change depending on the product and emulsifier.
The overhead stirrer I got from Amazon! It didn’t come with a whisk, but I took one from my hand mixer and attached it to the overhead stirrer because I felt like it had better shear than the hand mixer
@@thecosmescientist wow. I tried fitting in my whisker into my stirrer but it does not fit. I guess I will find a way but I like that. Im glad I ran into your youtube.
@@joydavey6971 I thought mine didn’t fit at first either but I just keep tightening until it fit. You might have to keep twisting until it fully closes! Happy formulating!
Great content thank you! I have an equipment question about the overhead stirrer: is the placing of the beaker before & after clunky? Wondering if this model lifts safely without contorting the beaker risking spillage or drops. I has arthritis and hoping to find equipment that help me work better not harder (or hurtful). Thank you. Also thanks for adding the link to this one. Helps to see it in action before buying.
while all your equipment looks very impressive, many of us don't have it at home - perhaps showing us how to make it with equipment that we have at home would be less intimidating - otherwise great formula
Hii! The video mentions that you could use a hand mixer instead of what I’m using! 🤍 I own a laboratory and make everything in there, but thanks for the feedback. I’ll always mention how to do things with home equipment, like I did in this video!✨
Many of the extracts, humectants, and conditioning agents can be substituted! It’s important to keep the butters and waxes at the recommended concentrations if you want to keep this same texture. Happy formulating!
The heating devices are called hot stir plates. I also used an overhead stirrer and an analytical balance. You can also just use a pot filled with hot water and a hand mixer!
