Terrific to see this particular car. As others have posted, it was Harry's first HDT car. The race was televised live, and after the '68 Bathurst result, Ford sure upped the ante with the Windsor GTHO. Spencer Martin was doing his best to stay with the works Falcons. Dramatic TV for the day,when he lost brakes...it could have been so much worse,save for Martin's great skills. Great memories, great cars, thanks for the upload 😁👍

Norm Beechey lives in the same part of Melbourne where we have a PO Box. Last time I saw him (a few years ago now) he was in his ex 409 Impala race car with his wife. Reg US-409. The Neptune Racing team where Norm had a blue S4 EH Holden, Jim McKeowan had a mini and another guy had a GT Cortina, very exciting times and racing. By comparison both Bathurst and Supercars today are boring by comparison.
You got that way wrong. Beechey had several cars, after the S4 he had a Mustang then a Chevy Nova. Jim McKeowan had a very quick Lotus Cortina and Peter Manton had a Cooper S.
This thing did a water pump at Sandown, No problem back then. There was a Holden 308 parked near his pit . They found the owner & ripped the water pump off that car. I am not sure whether they paid the guy. Norm Beechey like Bob Jane was a strange character. I have no idea why he went motor racing, he was more often than not in a rotten mood. But boy could he drive those cars fast.

I seen the same colour HK GTS monaro 327 new at Suttons of Homebush back in 1968, only difference was a black vinyl roof, looked amazing, great memories
So glad my grandparents bought the same model when it came out, I have so much respect for it now that they won’t be racing in Supercars anymore, can’t wait for them to hand it to me in the future
