I'm looking at these comments and watching this over and over again, and I just noticed that when Ody screams at Tiresias demanding to know who's with Penelope, Tiresias starts backing away from him, like he's scared to let the man who would be monster any closer.
People have said it but ill repeat it: i am in LOVEEEE with how distraught the prophet looks relaying Odysseus' future. Like even though he's seen literally everything, he's terrified, scared, cautious, and just so emotional towards Odysseus. I love passive Tiresias as much as the next guy but UGH THE EMOTION JUST CANT BE BEAT !!!! And the red only showing up behind Ody? Zooming in on the eye of the "mysterious" figure only to have HIM break through it? Like dude thats you calm down smh. But AMAZING WORK !!!! MANY KISSES MYUAH
Thanks so much!!!! I am absolutely struck by the urgency that Mason Olshavsky gives throughout this performance. The panic and frustration he brings is what really inspired me throughout making this storyboard. THANKS AGAIN!!!
Ahhh! Thank you both so much. The shadow academy album absolutely rocks! It was so fun to make a video based on my favorite song from it. Thanks to you both for sharing your art and music, it really helps to stoke the creative fires in others.
Wait, is one of the images at 'I see past and future running free' Romulus and Remus with Lupa? Also, Odysseus asking who, bursting through the man with Penelope in the vision, like Tiresias was seeing the man he was becoming, or foreshadowing the disguise he wears when he does get home is brilliant!
Yes! I thought it was a fun and more obvious reference to the religious overlap between Ancient Greek and Roman cultures. I figured if I just drew the different depictions of one of the gods it would be too vague. Thank you! That part is actually why I made this. The thought of Tiresias’ realization through the fog of foresight was too fun to pass up on.
Oh, I really love the take that Tiresias is just terrified of what the man he's talking to is going to become. It really gives more humanity in him than other ideas where he's casually relaying these visions. He's going through this ride with Odysseus and MAN is that fun to think about. Very good storyboard!
Thank you!! Mason Olshavsky just sells the terror with his voice. Knowing what’s going to happen, but being completely unable to stop it is one of my FAVE tropes!
Ooo like the comic strip? I’ll be honest I didn’t/ don’t read that one. But my older brother does so the style may have rubbed off to a degree. I was always a “Pearls before swine” and “The Far Side” guy
I love how HORRIFIED the prophet looks when he looks into Odysseus's future. Like he can't believe all of the horrible things he's done and will do to make it home.
I’m so happy that was conveyed in my drawings! Mason Olshavsky really sells the horror and despair from Tiresias with his phenomenal voice work. Thanks for watching!
It's been said quite a bit, but the expressions on Old Man Tiresias are excellent! He isn't just a neutral party (anymore, at least), but another encounter (perhaps even a victim, depending on how you look at it) on Odysseus's path to home. The fear and revulsion in his eyes at the final chorus were stellar, the old prophet realizing when a man became a monster.
Thanks so much! Love that last part! The realization that Odysseus has become this monster and that he will only get worse from here freaks him out. He realizes even his foresight can’t stop this now. Mason Olshavksy just kills it with his expressive voice.
I’m excited for Joe to appear! His sketched out sections have been a blast to create! I really gotta work on my motorbike sketches though 😬. If you would like to see his design you can check out my tumblr! www.tumblr.com/eliza-fernway-art/709360269499006976/there-are-no-heroes-left-in-man-our-humans-joe I’ve also got the designs for Light and Wily in act 1 & 2 up. Then first draft designs for Blues, Rock and Roll. The final designs for those 3 are 80% finished so hopefully they will be up soon!
I love how expressive Tiresias is in this, he looks scared, pained, irritated, serious, all kind of reactions to the visions and to Odysseus himself, I think that's pretty interesting, he isn't just passively giving information, even at the beginning where he offers his hand to help Odysseus stands, that's so nice.
YOUR CHOREOGRAPHING IS AMAZING HOLY SHIT!!! Absolutely in love with the movement of the characters and the backgrounds and the prophet just moving back into the shadows glaring at Ody is SUCH a good interaction. seriously, keep this up, you got major skill!
Okay you HAVE to make more animatics for epic. This is amazing. I LOVE how you made Tiresas actually react to his visions and made him look scared. I love how you gave him a personality. Also love the colors?? The grey-ish blue fits the atmosphere perfectly and the yellow contrasts with it really well. I’d love to see more!
i love the look of hope on Odeysseus' face that falls when the prophet says he can't help him, and i also enjoy Odeysseus just collapsing in despair once the prophet leaves. good job 👍
AHHH! I love that the river GRABS and tries to pull him down..AND I LOVE YOU KEPT OUR PROPHET OLD! Everyone is turning him into a young ff 'hotman' now xDD I will always prefer anyone that keeps him as an older man. I love that he comes off sort of as more of a judge? in this.. or at least how he points... And that he has this fearful point? like, he has seen some shit - is afraid, but aint afraid to point to the guilty party
Thank you!!! He lived seven lifetimes, he earned his old age! 😆 I always interpreted that even though he can see into the future, he genuinely didn’t realize that the man in the palace was Odysseus. That is until the outburst at 1:51 then it clicks and he’s just horrified at what’s happened to him and what’s to come
Aaaaaa such a good animatic! The last verse where the prophet is literally pointing at Odysseus as he sings, but him being too blinded by his own rage at the thought of his wife being in danger?? It's just so good!
Thank you!!! The absolute horror and sadness in Mason Olshavksy’s voice is just, ARGH it’s amazing!! It really helped me map out the expressions for the character
Ooo! It really depends on life stuff and how motivated I am. If I am remembering correctly, this took around 7 weeks start to finish. Probably with an average of an hour every night (some nights I skipped drawing, and plenty of nights I just worked on other things. I have around 15 projects right now that I am floating between depending on my motivation. This one I was really excited about so it got done relatively quickly for me. I edit as I go along, occasionally changing elements after I realize I don’t like how it looks in motion or in the lineup of scenes. So there’s some time that is there, but wasn’t shown in the final product. My black swan video that’s around 7 minutes took about 11 months with the same work ethic. I did lose about a minute and a half of work due to my tablet just nuking itself for no apparent reason. So that added maybe a month. Cast no shadow is almost 4 minutes and that took around 12 weeks. But I was also in the process of learning how my new editing app worked. I hope that kinda answered your question!
Didn't expect such a detailed answer ! It absolutely answers it. I'm blown away by the amount of work you put in this, but the result sure is worth it. This was the first video I've seen of you, I'm gonna check out the rest !
sorry i know i already commented (before i even finished because i got REALLY excited) but i just finished and my opinion has not changed this is amazing. like seriously it’s clear you’ve worked really really hard on this and MAN did it come together beautifully. The expressions!!!! The posing!!!! what a stunning and incredibly well thought out piece of art. i sincerely hope this blows up so more people get to watch this. i can say for certain it will be living rent free in my head in the best of ways. thank you so much for making this, i’m very happy i got to see it
Thank you so much, that’s really high praise! It was really fun to make. I mean THE VISUALS Jorge is able to conjure up with his music, he is such a phenomenal artist and wordsmith.
