How can the Hikaru Castle Queen side? The black light square bishop is eyeing on B1 square , so castle isn't possible It's illegal move Can someone explain?
I really don't think Magnus was trash-talking. His statement was a simple fact and he seemed confused when the crowd started "oooh"-ing. As I understood it, there were two events happening at London, and the players were responding with different events in mind.
This is a 4 year old video but it just came across my feed, and reading the comments it seems people are missing the point. Background: This interview is from the 6th Sinquefield Cup (August 2018), which was one event that was used to qualify for the Grand Chess Tour semi-finals and finals at the London Chess Classic in December 2018. The format of the Sinquefield Cup was one classical time control game against each player in the tournament. Maurice Ashley was asking Caruana about his results at the Sinquefield Cup as it relates to the World Chess Championship, where Caruana was already set to challenge Carlsen for the title of world champion in London in November 2018. Ashley then asked Magnus the same question, and I think that since Caruana had already said the match won't have a lot of bearing on the World Chess Championship, Carlsen didn't want to restate what Caruana already said. Magnus answered the question as if it was related to any event in London and was thinking about the Grand Chess Tour since the match wasn't important for Magnus for the Grand Chess Tour because he only played in the Sinquefield Cup out of the events to qualify for the London Chess Classic, and Caruana needed to do well in the Sinquefield Cup to qualify. Going into the Sinquefield Cup, Caruana was in 8th place with 11 points and needed to leap frog 4 players to get into the semifinals in the London Chess Classic. Based on Caruana's retort, I'm guessing he didn't appreciate Carlsen's carefree attitude and the way it sounded. At the same time, Caruana also started off with saying it doesn't matter, so Caruana seems to have responded as if Magnus understood the question but chose not to answer it. It's as if Caruana answered "it doesn't matter" then answered "it does matter". It seems Caruana heard from Carlsen "for me it doesn't matter but for Fabi it does" and related that in his mind to the World Chess Championship, which is what Carlsen was asked about but spoke about the London Chess Classic instead. The gaffe is really that Carlsen wasn't answering the question asked, and it sounded bad in relation to the question he was asked. Caruana should have also picked up on that and agreed but maybe also noted Carlsen didn't answer the question. If they both had classical time formats to answer the question it would have been a cleaner interview, but less spicy.
Thanks for clearing, also there were some idiots sitting there who were cheering for god knows what reason and Magnus also seemed confused why they were doing that.
I missed this sort of line up man. When all adult play there, topalov, vishy, so, mvl, fabi, mag, hikaru, karjakin, levon, grischuk all there. Nowadays, tournament is dominated lot by alien kid, ali, nodirbek, pragg, arjun, etc
A lot of people in comments doesn't have the context and thinks Magnus was actually trash talking. He meant he needs to win this tournament to qualify to World Chess Championship. When someone asks you what does this win mean to you? You can take it both ways actually. Like how happy are you? Or like what are you going to gain with it?
I see many people are looking for the songs. Two songs are playing in the video. The first song is I remember you by Skid Row and the second one is Since you've been gone by Rainbow
I kinda believe magnus, and fabi’s reply sort of took him off guard. Magnus absolutely knows how aging fabi is and is not to be counted out in any circumstance.
