Hey hey, naw man. It’s a BJ60 LandCruiser. HJ60 in Oz. I sold the 40 last year. This one is a bit more family friendly. lol. It’s been a nice and hot one so far. Just waiting for the wind for some kitesurfing now. 🤟
I ran into a bit of a hitch, the '86 FJ60 we have apparently has holes in the upper C pillar to attach the top mounts but no threaded insert, just holes in the body. I'll have to see if Seatbelt Planet has any ideas.
@RobertsAdventure shit. That’s right. I think 85 and up don’t have C pillar thread behind it. There’s got to be a solution though. Check the ih8mud forum.
@@Missedmyride Good call! Couple of threads on ih8mud. Sounds like making a backing plate from appropriate grade nut and washer or buying a backing plate and then using fishing line to pull it up the inside of the pillar is the preferred solution. Sounds fiddly but there's at least a couple of people who claim they've done it so I'll give that a crack. Thanks again!
Thanks for this, I like that you did it on the vehicle/ground rather than pulling the whole leaf and taking it to a vise/press. Good to have some examples of a more destructive approach to removing the old bushings :)
why would you use mild thread locker on the outer side of the seal maikes no sense it wouldn't come out once put in and you didn't run some grese around the innner side of the seal that will be in contact with the crank
Hey, using mild thread locker was taught to me by a performance boat mechanic a long time ago for all seals mating with metal. It helps it slide in and more importantly can seal up any scratches or imperfections. It will definitely come out the with the same effort. (You don’t want to be splitting these things apart after the fact) There are several good engineering discussions on this technique with a quick google search. Yes, definitely rub grease on the inner part of the seal. I may have done it off camera? Don’t recall.
Hey check out my other vid around the 5 min mark. I connect power and speakers. This might help. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-IEB7FKRjCYk.htmlsi=nXKrN6vP2Hn4mmvD
Thank you. I miss it. (Sold last summer to make room for my BJ60) The 77 must be awesome. Would be great to see some pics if you’re on instagram. @missedmyride
Hey, good question. This video was primarily about welding in a new metal panel and not rust removal. But obviously the rust has to be removed from the area to be welded. If you watch my other videos you will see the fender gets fully stripped, rust removed, epoxy sealed/primed and painted. Enjoy!
Right on. We love it down there. We left from near Wasaga Beach. With border crossing, stretch/pee stops etc. it took us close to 18hrs - non stop all the way to Hatteras. You get to the OBX in about 16.5hrs.
Do you mean Fj40 vs bj60? I miss driving the FJ40 around. Bouncing on the bench seats everywhere. And taking the hard top off in the summer. The BJ60 is super cool with its old “modern” technology. The diesel 3B sounds way cooler than the 2F engine imo.
I gave up trying to butt weld body panels. Too much shrinkage and warping. Plus you end up with pinholes after grinding off the ugly weld tacks. I’m sold on Panel bond adhesive with a contour-matching backing strip. You get a super strong seam with butted edges, zero warp and 100% waterproof!
I’ve seen this and it definitely seems like a good approach. Maybe I will try it out next time. The warping is definitely a pain and it slows the process down with butt welding. I do most of my welding during the winter cold months❄️so that probably helped a bit lol.
