I inherited one of these cameras from my late grandfather. I too had the sticking shutter issue, I ended up tearing down the entire lens/shutter unit and spraying everything down with electronics cleaner until all the congealed oil was removed, it now shoots very nicely. I used a toothpick as a precision oil applicator to apply oil to any pivots or bearings as I didn’t want to flood the lens or shutter mechanism. Take photos as you tear down the camera and make note of where all the shims go, these are very complex internally. It took me several days to get my camera working correctly. Use a parts tray, and a piece of cardboard to put screws and shims together. I had a spring shoot off and I got very lucky to have found it since that spring was thinner than a human hair.

8:25 I had NO idea this little button did anything at all, let alone give me a secret preview of the lighting/depth of field. What a discovery.

Maybe the A stands for advance? Because you cannot shoot without turning to it, no idea.

It's been so long ago that I bought my Canon AE-1 Program that i don't recall the date but it was in the early 80's. I still have it and it still functions perfectly. I wouldn't trade it for a new one although I don't use it as much as I used to. It's the perfect beginners camera as well as a professionals.

I love film photography you just can not duplicate the effects you get with film using digital . Film photography is an art unlike digital. I have more control over the effects not only while taking pictures but you can do even more once you have the film in the dark room. I got my first taste for film photography in high school useing black and white film I loved the results I got . He depth and clarity were amazing nothing like digital..

This camera was passed down to me from a deceased step dad. It took me years to get a lens and get it cleaned. Now I get to learn how to use it for some artistic shots for my brand! Thank you for your video! 🫶

So thankful for this video. I just got this camera today and I was surfing RU-vid trying to find a simple explanation but people made it way too complicated lmaooo. Also it never clicked in my mind that the little slot on the back was meant for the type of film you're using and I never realized you could just rip off part of the box and stick it in there. Super convenient. This camera really isn't all that difficult to figure out and I think it's perfect for beginners, which is exactly what I am. Thank you so much! Can't wait to start using it!

A I believe stands for Advance aka the setting that allows you to avance the film to the next exposure, Sort of Japanese logical when you think about it.

One of the biggest MF bargains. Almost as cheap as the Soviet junk. Lenses are mostly excellent and dirt cheap. I got the 55-110 zoom for around $100. Unbelievable.

i’m absolutely loving this video!! thank you so much. i already have a few cameras but they’re instant film/digital and i wanted to try 35mm film. i’m a total noob so this video is super helpful and easy to digest (not an overwhelming or complicating way of explaining things). i also love your energy, i’m already so excited to use my camera but watching you also be excited makes me even happier lol

Get review! I just picked one up in near mint condition with the 80mm 2.8f lens for $549 USD, I also found the 45mm 2.8f lens in excellent condition for $295 USD. I am including the pricing just for comparison purposes. I have shot medium format in the past mostly on a Yashica Mat 124 and occasionally on a Hasselblad 503. I consider the Mamiya 1000s as a mini Hasselblad. I hope you are still enjoying yours.

I have been shooting seriously since the 80's... I never stopped shooting film.... when digital first started to happen I knew pro Photographers who just went into retirement or changed careers rather than switch to digital.... it was really a big deal for some people to make that kind of change... but because I had just gotten into Photography... I was like, as long as somebody keeps making film.... why not do both... so, I did, and I do... most of my film career I used Pentax and Olympus cameras... and now I use Panasonic and OM in M4/3... and the same Pentax MX's I used and rebought from back in the day for film. I just acquired an AE 1 Program.... a very cool and informative video, thanks for what you do. I'm subscribed now.

Hi Bradyn I know that this video is old but the mamiya 6x4.5 1000s is a trully beautiful camera.. I no longer shoot with it my eyes are very bad, not wht they used to be.. for years that camera brought me a great deal of pleasure, taking landscapes and portraits down here in Barbados 🇧🇧 where I live. I would normally shoot Velvia and fuji negative 100... sorry I'm a fujifilm person... I have a full complement of lenses from 35 mm to 500 mm unfortunately they don''t get used anymore.. 😕
