I found myself in the same situation 15 years into playing drums and decided to switch to a conventional left-handed kit rather than switching to leading right. Almost 20 years later, I'm glad I did it - it definitely unlocked things for me. But maaaaaan fests/shared kit situations are more nerve wracking than they'd be if I kept the kit righty.
