This calculator clearly wasn't made by people who do math, probably just product designers who don't use calculators. Why on earth would you need to press shift to use ln or log10? Seriously, when are you actually going to use log a x when you can just use change of base like how normal people do it? Another NESA common L, I thought those exact values tested your ability to manipulate fractions, now it is automated. Who is in charge of NESA? They made English compulsory and allowed this calculator which allows stupid people to get high marks.... Nesa might as well allow calculators with computer algebra systems that can do integration and differentiation "Let's just don't hope the exams don't get any harder because of it" quite egotistical and self centred, do you realise there are many people who don't have the new calculators will be disadvantaged just because stupid NESA allowed it?
@nooneinpart
@nooneinpart 2 дня назад
Here’s my perspective: These fancy functions aren’t going to be much help if you don’t actually understand how they work. (Competent) teachers expect you to show work, you can’t just write the answer. This calculator isn’t going to magically help people that don’t understand what they’re doing to suddenly get a passing grade, but it will help people who do know what they’re doing to save time by not having to check and double check their fractions during an exam. Sure, people using traditional 1-line calculators will be at a disadvantage, but only because they need to redo calculations in order to check them. On this thing or any suitably advanced scientific calculator, you just need to peek at the history to make sure you typed everything in right. But compared to how much I’ve spent on college and textbooks, the price of this calculator is a mere drop in the bucket.

More powerful than a HP Prime G2? A SwissMicro DM42? A Numworks? A TI-92? (iffy, but could be)? A freaking TI-Nspire? Is it faster than a speeding bullet? Able to leap tall buildings in a single bound? Do you even know what processor it uses? Does it use a processor, or is it gnome-powered? (which admittedly would be cool). And I'll freely concede that anything with a battery beats my old slide rule. But I would lay off statements such as "Most overpowered..." You don't want to become one of *those* YT sites... The 8200 kind of has a tiny screen, still better than the LEDs of the 70's... And did I blink and miss how you program it? :) As for buttons, my TI-92 has 80. Granted that it is so big that you could use it as a wheel chock. But it does have 80 buttons. Which is some amount larger than 48... And a Motorola 68000 CPU. So I did some research and apparently "Exact values" is a thing for you. So what do "Exact values" mean to me? Did I mention slide rules? Ever hear of Log tables (usually located in the back of the school math book) And on a happy note, my Casio fx-890P showed up today from Japan. No programming ability? Really? How in the heck are you supposed to play lunar lander?

@MrWaalkman
@MrWaalkman Месяц назад
@@ArturoGarzaID Ah, are you saying that words failed him? That certainly wasn't the impression that I got. If anything, he is far more capable than I am in the "being wordy" department. This is what I heard: "This is the most overpowered calculator in the world." Not a lot of room for misinterpretation... He even created a graphic stating the same thing. So, I'm fairly certain of what I heard and read. I'm easily confused, but even I have my limits. Since we're running a race to the bottom, here's a cheaper one that compares well to the Casio: Texas Instruments TI-36X Pro. In other news, I have a pretty little Sharp PC-G850VS on its way from Japan. Did you know that you can create programs on it in Assembler? How cool is that?! And because of you, I found two non-working TI-92 calculators for ~$27 USD - with shipping (they are cheap donors so they don't need to work). Thank you for that! There's a couple of Hackaday projects to convert TI-92 calculators to a color screen running a Raspberry Pi. BTW, the one thing that TI does well is that they don't do a particularly good job of locking down their calculators. Very hackable, and there are a ton of homebrew programs out there for them. Check out ticalc dot org if you are interested.

@tombesports7213
@tombesports7213 10 месяцев назад
Naah they aren't going backward that much. As i can see, You didn't even use a cw calculator. I use both of them (ex and cw). Cw is much faster than ex but yea you have to press a lot of button in cw. That's the only negative thing you can say about cw
@MartinBeerbom
@MartinBeerbom 22 дня назад
User interface wise, correct. About the only thing I think they improved is the function definition and the solve, which is much more stable than before. Almost everything else is worse -- I particular dislike the change in behavior of the decimal exponent button (you no longer can enter a number with an decimal exponent like 1.4e6, it always treats it as a product of the 1.4 and the 10⁶. Also, this whole menu thing is getting ridiculous, like the menu for output options with the "FORMAT" (yes, you could use the SHIFT-EXE, but if you already have done a calculation and press it, it starts a new calculation, which messes up all the UI improvements they made with regards to user history). I don't know about hardware/processing speed as I think that's irrelevant for a school calculator for decades.
@barry2718
@barry2718 10 месяцев назад
The values stored in f(x) and g(x) are not forgotten when it's turned off unlike the fx991cw. You can store the roots of a quadratic eqn in g(X)= (-B+Xsqrt(B^2-4AC))/(2A). Then Store ABC. Call up g(1) and then g(-1) to get the two roots BUT this also works in complex mode to give you complex roots. Call up g(0) to get Axis of symmetry where minimum or maximum occurs. You can also store f(x) = Ax^2+Bx+C and tabulate f(x). I have two other review tricks on the office works review website page.

@@DerekDavis213That's true, but nevertheless most things engineers do is math. So, craving for good tools should be the first thing engineers do. I also use modern calculator like fx 991 classwiz. Most calculators there days are purely made for students and teachers and not to do real work with them. I own about 20 Pocket Calculators and only the old HP models i would call a solution for engineers. The more modern ones are just for students doing classes made for calculators. TI has some very strange models that offer useless things like random coin toll apps but are not able to work with more than 10 significant numbers.
