Join me as I learn more about these wonderful plants, and lets become better orchid growers together!
I began my descent into orchid madness towards the end of 2018. Now I'm learning to take care of my fledgling orchid collection in my small apartment in Switzerland.
Could it be the cat that had caused the plant to topple over? Just apply tape duct tape to the bottle or tape a bit of brown paper to the bottle. .. No more clear bottle
Looks great. I am going on holidays for 2 weeks. My father in law will water my plants but I am not sure if I should leave my phalenopsis outside. Temperatures are a bit cool - between 8-12 degrees at night
Whith my hybrid phals I have encountered that their fragrance depends on brightness of light and even on timing of light. I have one which becomes fragrant when it is sunny in the morning and one which suddenly becomes very fragrant during and right after watering. My liodora is very fragrant when it is sunny and until I put it on south facing windowsill I thought I was unlucky to get a non fragrant liodora. 🤷🏼♀️
Hi! Could you write title for each nursery where I can buy mini mark orchid, please! Managed to find Clay's orchid gardening center. No online options for their orchids. Would appreciate names spelled out in this video. So appreciated for it! Thanks!
I usually clean the leaves with Mayo and then I go over with a bit of lemon water. Gives shine and a very natural look. A lil bit of cleaning goes along way :D Sending love from Texas 🥰🙋♀️🐄🏜
That's a good idea Iris! Since you clean them with lemon water, do you have less dust collection on your leaves after the cleaning? I find that the mayo can leave them busy a tad sticky and make them dustier faster
No water touches the wall at all, it's all contained to the pots. So there's no extra work to keep it clean and dry. When watering i take the pots down, and hang them up again after.
I add rain mix fertiliser to the water, and they're all doing great! If your orchids are in a more water retentive media like sphagnum moss at the moment, it might be easier on the roots to mix LECA with something like Synthic
Hi^^ A fellow Swiss grower here ;) I also do anorganic substrate, but I noticed a few orchids having problems with the high pH... right now I am growing most of my chids in "longtime substrate" (Luwasa), and some former Leca growers pop right back to health. Happy growing!
@@OrchidNerd It is a mineral mix you may find in larger online shops, home improvement stores or garden centres, I am using it together with an anorganic wick (just a cheap 5mm cord) for easier water supply. I noted that the luwasa one does not act hydroscopic when dry, at least not as much as leca. It is all about convenience and pH in the end I guess. Yeah, sphagnum moss does not really anything for me, I am still working on a few weaklings with it, but I may swap it to synthic. It is really interesting as some like the b. nodosa hated leca, but nodosa hybrids just thrive in it. Usually the hybrids are more forgiving, but again, the bc. yellow bird was not having it as well.
Welcome back. I feel that whatever and wherever your interest lies is where you should go. I love watercolors and a video on that would be just as exciting. No worries on whatever happened to your orchids. The ones you have are loving you and that is just fine with me. No matter where you live there will never be enough light. Trust me I have a lovely place where I live and I feel like I still don't have enough light. You have a wonderful day and I am looking forward to whatever videos you make.
Exciting! I started off by just looking at some very simple tutorials on RU-vid. If you have skillshare, there are a loooot of great classes on watercolour there
oh my! I was wondering about your whereabouts earlier today! Welcome back-ish! The Tolumnias will love some artificial light, too, if you don't have a window I would love watercolor videos as well!
@@OrchidNerd honestly, if it’s only a handful of Tolumnias, you can get a bulb from Amazon for less than 20€, plug it into a normal lamp and it’s done. That’s how I started, too
Thanks for the update, I go through the same moods with my orchids. Sometimes I am just not into it, although right now I am very into it but due to money and other circumstances I can't do any of the spring hauls of new plants I am desiring. Would love to see your painting videos, I paint also, but not lately... maybe you will inspire :)
Ahh mightbe both and curse and a blessing that more orchids cannot be obtained!... Although mostly a curse I'm sure. I hope that your circumstances improve soon! If there is a chance that i can inspire you to paint, then I'll try that! Look forward to a painting video some time in the future ❤️
Sounds like a lot has been going on since the last video. Glad you’re doing well and pursuing new interests (btw, your watercolors are amazing!). Feel free to do whatever you want on your channel...it’s all about you anyways so you don’t have to cater to us. 😁
So awesome to see you back on! Even though I just talked to you this morning 🤣 I will always be in touch with you my dear! I love you to peices! 😘 do you still have your Cattleya zip?
