Trade Marner obviously. Trade Matthews too. He has been a no show in the playoffs for each of his 8 seasons. I don't care if he scores 200 goals in the regular season. You don't see McDavid or McKinnon on milk cartons in the playoffs.

I you're taking too much flack for sounding like an idiot about trading Marner then bring this guy in to do it for you. Such a clown, the Oilers have never had to face a team as strong as Boston, Tampa or Florida in the 1st rd. No way Oilers being in the East could beat Carolina as Boston is matched with the Leafs in the 1st rd. Leafs beat NY, Dallas and Oilers, there problem is Florida and I doubt Oilers or Dallas have much of a chance against Florida either. All sorts of names flying around and all of them are flying around thanks to people like Seravalli.
You are all seeing it wrong. He is a skilled player ! He is on his last year of his contract that does not guarantee a new contract ! There is a new coach ! Marner will be aware of his worth with the leafs ot making a new contract with another team. If he is traded now, it teaches him nothing and he will still make money.
how will you replace Marner's almost 100 point seasons? 80% of Matthews goals have been assisted by Marner! Matthews wants Marner to remain so he's not going anywhere..
The smartest moves for MLSE will transpire as follows: Have Marner play out his contract and not resign him. Players on their final year of expiring contracts play harder. Once Draisaitl is available end of next year they should put the best offer forward to acquire his superior services. The current highest paid player on the Leafs couldn't care less about winning in the playoffs. 34 wouldn't sign for eight years here as he wants to keep his options open, so four years is all he gave us. If the Leafs wimp out again in next years playoffs then get rid of Prima Donna Matthews and go after McDavid when he comes available the following year. Who cares if he scores 80 regular season goals. If he can't dominate in the playoffs we don't need him. He'll be more than happy to go play in La La land. Then take the 13.25M he's getting and use it to bring in McDavid for 15M. While we're at it bring back Hyman, who's the Du(m)bass that let him go...Of course the pecker heads in charge don't have the balls, or are willing to follow through with the best moves for the team..Bowmanville Dave
Leafs: “Hey Mitch, we want you waive your no move/no trade clause.” Marner: “No thanks.” Leafs: “…………………… The time to trade Marner was LAST June. Too late now. All this speculation is a waste of time. If MLSE wants to move on from Marner, it will be as a UFA next summer. All they will receive in return is cap relief. Better get used to the fact that Marner will be an “own rental”.
Id say trade Marner, let Tavares resign but only if less than 5 mill and no more than 3 years. If not let him walk. Have Matthews and Nylander be the big name vets and sign or trade for a second line center, a backup goalie and trade for a first pair dman
Marner is the most overvalued player in the league. He’s had arguably the most unique and lucrative position of any winger in the league. His TOI, years of playing with the best goal scorer in the world, and other linemates who do all the heavy lifting. PP points, etc. just look at how Max Domi was benefiting from the spot for just those few games Marner was out. Not a center, He’s a highly skilled, soft perimeter winger. Not a franchise player who carries his team or even own line. More easily put, Marner is a player who has to be put with other specific linemates to do the work: a goal scorer and a power forward type to do the hard work, in order to get his points. Marner is a 9.5M regular season player and a 3.5-5M playoff player.
I've been saying for weeks Reilly is the guy I would trade. Also, I don't think Leafs should resign Domi. He just isn't a first liner and not big enough to be a third line center. Or Bertuzzi. Make better use of that 8.5 mil those guys make. If they trade MM, then after next year only big offense guys will be AM and WN. That's not enough. They need MM and his 90 to 100 points. This year if he hadn't got hurt he might have led the Leafs in points. Certainly would have had more points than WN.
Trade Marner to LA for Brandt Clarke. Toronto gets future Dman star they haven’t had in a long while. Also creates almost $30 million in available cap space to fill out roster with free agents.
They can't wait for a guy to develop. They will never do this or anything similar to this. The best part of the window is already over, and their remaining window is at best 3 or 4 years because there is no world where matthews is staying any longer than he has signed for if they still haven't won anything.

You’ll lose a first rounder in any deal you make, you have maybe 6 teams to deal with (cap wise) 4 of which don’t need or want this player… it’s just supply and demand… then if you look at the line and contenders who want to ‘get over the hump’ and none of them see mm as a guy to make that happen
Who cares what Marner does with a new team? He did nothing for years in the playoffs here. Freeing up the cap space would be enough so they can get 2 good defensemen for the same money, maybe even 3 above average defensemen. Trading Rielly would be really stupid. Get him some help for the first time in years and see what happens with a decent defense and a Marnerless offence.
A 100 point player is helping you win in the regular season. You need players that help you get a playoff spot in the first place. Listening to Frank sometimes is cringe. I do think the leafs should move on from marner, but talking like he is useless, man. Frank should get off the doughnuts and try playing a sport
Alot of Leaf fans are so horny to move Calle and Kampf to NJ for no reason. Like calle has no roll on the Devs. Idc what the clown GM says i believe Holtz will prove him wrong under keefe. So does Calle play top 6? HELL NO. Leaf fans need to stop wanting Keefe to live in Dubas's shadow, let the man be his own guy now that he got away from the Dubas guys and everything. All speculation, the leafs organization has not said a word on any player especially marner. These so called insides make shit up because the leafs are out of the playoffs, they know nothing. Waste of fucking time watching these idiots
Hockey is a team sport. A guy doing better somewhere else says more about the other 19 players than it does about the 1 guy being traded. People love to talk about how ex-leafs do better on other teams but then fail to mention just how dominate those other teams actually were/are. In all of the cases, they were top-tier teams. There are plenty of leafs that did not go to top-tier teams and they invisible right now. But we're not supposed to talk about them.
These guys have no clue what there saying Leafs have no shot against these final four teams, then talk about Edmonton and Vancouver being far more superior, Atlantic division stacked would love to play LA Nashville in the first round, more importantly love to play in the Pacific where a division in complete rebuild, shame on Leafs not getting out the first round with Nylander missing 3 games and Matthews missing 2 games, get McDavid and Draisaitl miss a few games see what happens, now to trade Marner for the sake of shakeup is asinine, if you trade Marner who's replacing his production, who says he lifts his trade clause and he's practically a rental with one year left, how about Berube attempts to fix Marner btw his issues are from neck up, bring in a goalie to compete with Woll, and say goodbye to Brodie Giordano Klingberg and get one or two of Pesce Skeij Zadorov Tanev and re-sign Edmundson, and start grooming Minten and Easton and go draft big 200 ft right shot defender at 23rd pick, we're closer then you think #LeafsForever
