I need to check in books which ketones bisulfite does not work with. I apologize, I don't have time to do this right now. The bisulfite must be of good quality, and the reagent should not be stored in the air as it oxidizes and may not work. There is a 100% reaction with ketones using nitroprusside; red coloration definitely indicates a ketone. Logically, if bisulfite has given a reaction, we need to determine whether it was with a ketone or an aldehyde. The reagent should be specific to either aldehydes or ketones. Just like with silver, where aldehydes are oxidized and ketones do not react, the choice of method and reagent determines what can be detected.
@@SafroleBlog what is the most simple method you can think of using something like acetic acid or citric and which most available base would work/ solvent? 🙏🙏 It's so hard to find any clear cut method out there that doesn't get lost in translation, I don't have a full array of equipment just the chemistry set or tools
@@travisphelps3602 As an extractant (solvent) for extracting the free base, you can use pure gasoline for lighters. For extracting mitragynine, acetic or citric acid is suitable. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is found in household drain cleaners (the cheapest ones with a simple composition). You should have a better understanding of what you can use for extraction based on what is available to you.
For today and in the near future, we will not even consider the synthesis of benzylmagnesium chloride. It is interesting, although quite labor-intensive.
@@SafroleBlog why? I think it easily can be synthesized from benzyl chloride and metallic magnesium powder in the diethyl ether solvent.I will try this in the near future.Is there anything I need to know while doing this experiment? I would appreciate it if you could help :))
This is just about the worst way to go about this. Yields will be terrible and it will take forever. Most HCL salts of amines are very soluble in water , usually around 1g per ML. so if you have even a tiny bit of liquid to pour off you are loosing grams of product. Also amines in water like to form an oily liquid tat can take a week to dry even in very low humidity. if you allow this liquid to dry completely globs of crystals bind together trapping impurities that wont come out in the washing step. The best way to purify amines without vacuum distilling them is to re crystallize from boiling alcohol. put your product in a beaker with just enough dry alcohol to make it completely wet, heat until the alcohol begins to boil. Add more alcohol a few drops at a time until all of your amine dissolves . remove from heat and let your mixture cool as slowly as possible. finish by putting it in the freezer over night. in the mourning you will have large crystals in your solution. filter off the crystals and wash with ice cold acetone. you can get to 99% purity tis way with less then a 5% loss if you do it well.
what would you recommend for slow cooling? my first thought was to completely wrap the beaker in a few layers of tin foil and let it sit for as long as it needs, but that might be overkill.
@@kulled you can heat the solution untill it boils quite fast with a heat gun, and afterwards you can put it in a (pre heated) oil bath. You can choose to manually decrease the temperature of oil bath (10°C/2h for example) or just turn off the heating and let it cooldown on itself
Comon man if walter white was real deal he would synthesise all raw materials into liquid if stable and powder if volatile beforehand as an organic chemist instead of buying the vast majority of the ingredients from all kinds of people and then just going through the formula and following the steps, booksmart 💯 Innovative or Original Nah
@@falamensia-3454 to some degrees yes, but some chemicals are incredibly hard to synthesise and require large or expensive equipment, many precursor chemicals are much easier or cheaper to buy from factories that have that equipment… but if Walter doesn’t need Audi how would the show relate to ppl around the world who only know about psudo because or meth addicts buying it in bulk and pharmacies not being able to sell it to them when they have a cold etc etc… so there are reasons to get precursors from other places rather than make them urself AND there are reasons to use certain precursors because it’s a movie 😉🍻
@@falamensia-3454 kinda like the laundry Gus had them working In Right, they had carbon filters etc taking chemicals out of the air so none left the factory… the carbon and filters would need to be replaced and removed from the factory so why didn’t Hank just try to catch the waste removal and get a sample swab and get it tested, that would have had residues on it I’m sure enough to get warrants to search etc, there is lots of stuff that in the real world wouldn’t work but they kinda skip over it to make for a more enjoyable show 👊😉

Yes, it looked like you got a better purification out of the recrystallization process than from the acetone filter rinse? Usually, acetone rinses get those quite white and clean. However, even after slow recrystallization I still detected some orange/yellow impurity still present in the crystal? What is that?
