gospel lover and vinyl collector from New Jersey. I will be celebrating the known and unknown in gospel music history. I hope you enjoy! God Bless and Keep you!
I'm not a religious person by any stretch, but when I saw the movie when it was released, I cried uncontrollably throughout this performance. The undeniable pain that I hear in their voices, but also the optimism that just breaks through, is a powerful mix. Questlove and editor Joshua L. Pearson placing this sequence after footage of the assassinations of Kennedy and King was a stroke of genius. I read that there are some 40 hours of footage that the 2 hour movie was distilled from. I want to see ALL of it!!!
The essence of the Spirit Of GOD is contained within their voices... and in this moment. Few can match the raw energy... the depth of conviction in Queen Mahalia and Queen Mavis's voices. Cutting right through the frequent pain of the Black Experience in America, revealing its still Glowing Soul. Moved to tears, as I remembered my grandmother telling me about this manifestation of GOD'S Reality. I doubted her.. at the time. I don't any longer... having seen and heard the proof.
The lady on the right is my grandma Lucille Scroggins, soprano for the Statham Singers. I grew up going to attending their performances. Lucy is 88 and still hitting the high notes! And Ms. Malvilyn is still out here stirring souls!
The dancers were to much in the way of them singing like who set this up cause looking at her other videos she have had any dancers in the other dry bones video the dancers just want to be seen like sit down and quit playing people trying to get what they need from God through her talents
I miss when music could touch your soul what has happened to music I’m a 15 year old boy and I love music from the mid50s,60s,70s that’s real soul I can tell you that
I began listening to traditional gospel music at your age. Im in my 30s now. I appreciate the old sound. I hope you are encouraged by the gospel gems you come across.
She was so anointed I saw her live on youtube and the holy spirit was all over her she was witnessing and singing at the same time she couldn't stop she was letting the holy spirit have his way.
Is there any footage of Clara singing a sustained high note with vibrato? The F5 at the end was an admirable attempt, but I suspect that it would have been far more successful without all of the jumping jacks that built up to it!
I'll never forget watching this Doc the first time and hearing the key like "Mavis Staples bout to KILL in the basement on this here!" When she started in her upper register i was like "AWWWW SNAP SHE BOUT TO KILL KILL!!!" She sung.
