Thanks, April! I really appreciate your insights on the technical side of publishing that go beyond children's books. This may be helpful for Barbara: I used to have to set up interviews on radio stations for the seminar company I worked for. I always emailed confirmation of the interview, date & time along with a page of questions for the interviewer to ask, a.k.a. copy points. "Tell me about your book" can be daunting, because you can think, "Where to start?!" "What sparked the idea for your story?" gets into the feeling of your book. You can start with the idea of what the message of your book is, and then craft questions around that. Write out your answers and then practice. This way, you know what to expect and you've practiced your answers. It also makes it super-easy for the interviewer. Also, listen to other episodes from that podcast to get a sense of who you'll be talking to. I think one of the friction points with children's books is finding an illustrator who "gets" the message and general feeling for your story. I have a friend going through this process right now, so I think she'll appreciate your giving a jumping off point on how to choose an illustrator. Again, thanks! 🙂
It’s cool to listen to how your granddaughter responded to the book. I often wonder how young children would respond to books with a bit more depth in terms of the subject matter. Very interesting stuff! 🫶✨
Their innocence and curiosity is something to behold. The way the book explains a God that is close and loving is a beautiful way for them to learn about God.
Oh my goodness! I just saw another video where the author read a part of her book and it just made me feel like every verse was filled with love and care. It’s beautiful to see that this was the mission for the book all along. It really shines through in the writing. Beautiful work! Thank you for sharing these inspiring videos, April! 🙌✨
This is so precious! The writing is phenomenal, you just feel the love and care of the author pouring through the words. Thank you for sharing this April! 🙌✨
I enjoyed this so much. I am a pastor’s wife, retired kindergarten teacher, and a new author at almost 73. It reminded me again that older adults have something positive to give the younger generation. Our life experiences in a different world has deposited things in us that need sharing. God is still using us. Thank you for sharing! I will look her up on the Internet.
i sent my middle grade novel, Hide and seek in which Emily has a fever after a wound to her leg. She faints and has an out of body experience and she floats up through the Abbey roof where she is taken way up into the sky and sees a blinding light and there's a voice and it's the voice of God The voice tells her to go back and live. She floats to earth and lives. I sent the book to an editor and he was very negative about it saying that some atheist parents might object. I mentioned C.S. Lewis and said how popular they are and he didn't have an answer. Although the book isn't there to preach, It was my way of showing my faith and needless to say, it's still there and it will never be taken out. God bless the lady and her books. In this often Godless world, we need someone to write books like that.
Hi, thanks for the video! How do you make the text box transparent without fill or fame a frame so you can see the picture under the text, as you type? Thank again.
You are a life saver! I'm about to enable distribution, but I've spent the last 8 hours trying to work out if I should delete the extra HTML Ingram adds in the description. Seriously, I can't thank you enough! 💛🙏
Just log all the way out of the browser, and go back in. Sometimes that helps. Sometimes you need to wait a day for them to recognize that you’ve filled everything out with your account. It is frustrating. Klugey website at times.
Congrats. It doesn’t happen that quickly for most. Is this a traditional publisher… paying for all expenses or a hybrid where you need to contribute to the payment for the fees.
I'm currently a low content publisher that hopes to expand in the future. These are great set of videos, thanks April. I felt particularly inspired by the video with the author's case studies :)
I’m not sure I understand your question. When Ingram is distributing your book to other websites and there is an order, it is placed with Ingram so the royalties come from them. Kdp royalties come from Amazon.
The content here is a little to unstructured, can you please add chapters and organize your content based on topics, this is a little too all over the place!
Thanks for your feedback. I just started doing this with my new videos so yes I’ll put this on my to-do list to work on. Wish there were more than 24h in a day!
I have not been able to publish on Ingram Spark because I get to the end but they say that I have unacceptable color profiles. Does that mean that I have to lose some of the colors that are on my covers.
Hi, i haven’t determind the final price of my childrens book. Can the price be left blank? If not, i can put 13.99 for now but can i modify it in the future?
You can leave the price off if you want and yes you can change the price in the future if you prefer. Some book stores want the price on there so ask around to the stores you would want to use. $13.99 and $18.99 are what I’ve been using for paperback and hardcovers but I also think it’s time for a price hike because the royalty is getting smaller and smaller.
