K we do not have an opiod epidemic we as humans have a pain epidemic... Opiates are the most natural way to kill pain. Opiod comes from god its a flower and it is a gift. Age limits for sure but 30 seems like an appropriate age to enter politics. You should spend some time in the world/state to identify some problems rather than begin your career running for office detached from everyday experience.
The oldies in power are the ones detached from real experience. Representatives should be a cross section of society. So we should have young professionals and renters struggling to own a home on the chamber. Old age seems to be the opposite of wisdom these days.
Very good post...Ive often questioned why so many (misguided) Afro Americans, Latinos and now Indo South Asians are embracing Conservative / MAGA Republicanism. It's so paradoxical and contradictory. But they embrace certain appealing Alt Right Policies that agree with their Worldview or Personal Agenda yet have Blindspots of Perception / Denial / Cognitive Dissonance that the Alt- Right isnt committed to Racial Justice or dismantling the Dominant Status Quo. The paradox and contradiction is the Alt-Right Conservative still views Black and Brown bodies through a White Hegemonic lens but will Mobilize / Weaponize them to uphold their Agenda and Co-opt / Recruit others from their respective Communities. In manipulating and using Black and Brown representatives and pundits, the Alt Right can also symbolically "absolve" themselves of any charges of "racism" / white supremacy / privilege, etc. .
Proportional representation in the Commons would be disastrous, nothing would get done. The electoral vote by seat delivers a party with a majority in the Commons which allows the majority to govern. IMO, what is needed is compulsory voting by all eligible citizens.

The year that politicians have to vote on making politics hard to stay in if you're not qualified will be interesting. Waiting for each general election just to find out that Joe Shmoe and his party of funded nominees wins each electorate is not fun anymore. I can guarantee you that the two leading parties will never hold a referendum on the voting system ever again. They don't want competitors. Tactical voting benefits the two main centrist parties, so why would they saw the branch they are sitting on? I'm frankly astonished that they ever gave a referendum on the voting system in the first place, and I'm astonished that the UK population did not vote for the CLEARLY better system. Apparently, the main issue with instand-run-off or preferential voting was that it was "too complicated'. Too complicated? So glad to find this video, Bruce. I just watched The Conformist for the first time in 50 or so years. I've often listed it as my favorite Bertolucci film (and I like a lot of them), even though my memories of it were pretty vague compared to others I'd seen over the years (I have a special fondness for The Dreamers, even though I've never thought of it as his best). Anyway, I appreciate the insights in this video, as I return at last to the film.
