Joanna Lumley is one of those wonderful people who finds joy in being alive and who appreciates the people she meets and the places she visits (shown in particular during the travel documentaries she frequently does). She is an acknowledged beauty but has never taken that as an accomplishment on her part nor has she become a diva as a result of it. She is, apparently, great fun to work with. And, yes that gorgeous, plummy voice. And … she loves cats and, as s single cat lady myself, I find this a most endearing quality.
“If we can receive what the other person has to say in a graceful way, then I think we’ve given them a wonderful gift” (pan to Charlie Rose looking down and shuffling papers)
@@LoganM175 I agree that programming can be hard and frustrating sometimes, and for sure it's not for everyone, but being able to build things is another level of fun
Bought a biography audio book about Mr Rogers and enjoyed it very much. The most surprising thing about him was his sense of humor, he loved Monty Python and the story of a guest on Mr Roger's Neighborhood (don't remember his name) replacing his sweater with a blowup sex doll. Mr Rogers came in and never missed a beat when he opened the closet, took the doll and danced across the floor with it. No surprise he was exactly the man you saw on television, his choices in life seem to be training for the legacy he left. He would write each script by hand on a legal pad, would stop production for hours to seek out an expert to resolve a child development or mental health issue or technical point on The Neighborhood.
So would have loved to meet him just to hear that iconic, wonderful voice in person. He seems like a very personable man from his interviews, not so serious a person so many of the characters he played. My favorite movie of his is Field of Dreams, mainly because it is a beautiful, magical movie, but his character Terence Mann because I see myself in him. Desire for solitude and privacy though for very different reasons, his disappointment and disillusionment with life's unrealized dreams.
Yes Joanna we are very much aware that a tiny group of people can change the world. about 15 millions of them control 8 billions of us. So even if 1 million of us do anything or even if 20 million of us or even if 50 millions of us do anything, with zero power, we will never be able to fight them who control everything. They have long decided the extend of our power and they deal with the ones trying to even point them out with our finger very quickly by cuttin g it off. This is how the real world works Joanna. It is easier to try to change it or wish to change it with a 20 million pounds net worth like you. For the rest of us, the real world, just trying to feed ourselves and keep a roof over our head is all we can hope for. We do not have the luxury to cruise on the Nile or visit Iran or make documentaries about Japan or cats or Greece. We have to work 8 to 11 hours a day just to barely make ends meet. So being told to even do more from someone with that much money and privileges and birth rights, is not just insulting, it is dangerous.
I like her a lot and admire her and have the greatest form of respect for her work to help others and especially animals. BUT, let's be honest here for a second, she is the epitome of white privilege giving people advices on how to behave and live. If she had been the result of poor uneducated immigration, and made it that far, then we could maybe take note, but i think she can only talk to an audience with the same starting point and advantages as her. And unfortunately for me, i, as a result of poor uneducated immigration, can absolutely not relate. For people like us, just making it through the day and yet another month is about as far as we dream, because the future is always just full of obstacle regardless of our achievement as we have to prove ourselves 100 times more than people with less achievements than us. No matter how much i make it or made it so far, i always see the damocles sword above my head ready to chop. I have never had one single day of security in my entire life, not even when i have a good job, a good wage, a beautiful house to live in, all i see is how quickly this all can be taken from me and then i am back to abject poverty. People who have never known abject poverty and know they will never know it, because no matter how low they gtet it never gets this low for them, will never understand that. So i am sorry Joanna, but i can absolutely not relate to anything you say, because i do not come from the same background as you. In my world just wishing something and never giving up and working really hard, never comes to fruition, and positive attitude is something that my lot was never given the privilege of. All we can do is either like me work 100 times harder than the ones we want to be and settle for 10 times less than they have. Or fake it until we make it, knowing that there are 99% of chances we won't make it. That's why you see people in brands accessories and designer clothes (mostly stolen) and luxury car (mostly stolen or rented) just for a photo before going back to life on welfare. When the game is rigged from the start and bias to a certain kind, the game is neither fun to play nor do people like me find the will to play it anyway.
RIP James Earl Jones. Obviously Star Wars etc made him a star but also films such as Dr.Stranglove, The Hunt For Red October and Conan the Barbarian made him a massively versatile actor. And this video of James talking shows what a lovely and intelligent man he was - and his head was screwed on too. Gone but not forgotten.
