Im planning on doing this around july 6th. Any need to know info you care to share? Were going to do this route and then jump over into the ORBDR heading north up to sisters.
You are not wrong. However, I have owned 3, a ‘16, a ‘20 and a ‘22. Awesome rigs and yes better overall for traveling in but I have always really wanted an FJ.
FJ is definitely cool and it should be a fun build! Especially if you decide to put a rhino rack and rooftop tent on it. Overall, I’ve seen that they are pretty capable (once built up a bit) and they can look super cool too! I’m based in Oregon and once I get my channel up and running, maybe we can do a trip together!
@@710Overland That would be cool. What part of Oregon are you in? As for the FJ. I will probably keep in like it is a not mod it too much. It is super capable just as it is. I can still get 20 mpg too! It does have the rear locker and ATRAC if I ever need it. My 16' 4Runner was locked front (Harop E-locker) and had the factory rear E-locker. I hardly ever used the front locker. The FJ is the same platform as the 5th gens but more compact. I have not wheeled it too much but, so far man, it's a plucky little mountain goat.
New sub here. Love the build. I was curious on what the cost was to have the front/rear lockers installed? And did you re gear as well? Thanks! Looking forward to more of your content .
Glad to have you here! I had Mike’s Custom Toys in Grants Pass, Or do the locker install. I chose to not regear. If I could go back, I would have. But for now it’s fine. It just doesn’t use 6th gear very often as a result
Thanks for taking us vicarious adventurers along for the ride. Also for your attention to detail, music...all very nice. It is an amazingly gorgeous corner of Earth.
Since you city boys don't know where you're at, I'll try to fill you in. You're on a hill over looking Majors Place, where Hwys 93 and 50 meet. The ghost town of Osceola is due East of where you're camping in the opening of your video. We call it Sacramento Pass. It is on the Map.
I like the video, I was watching it while driving down to Albany for the weekend and it made traffic considerably less miserable. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Not sure how you could possibly consider this a secret spot :). Go there in may if the Rome gage is over 1500 cfs and there will be raft groups taking out all day every day and over 50 rigs parked at the takeout spot, off season is nice though as it makes it seem forgotten
Very true and I don't really think of the place as a secret so much as a favorite. I just don't want to broadcast the name to "overlanders" and then have it be overrun and treated irresponsibly and potentially closed down. I wander and explore by 4wd as a lifestyle and have for 30+ years now but this "overland" craze is getting to be a bit much and so many of the places I used to enjoy in solitude are packed with people. No offense to them, it's for all to enjoy but I like solitude.
True enough for all outdoor recreation! Used to see hardly anyone boating on the owyhee in the 1990s to mid 2000s, now tons of people when there is enough water for rafting. @@Tencenttourguide
@@Tencenttourguide hold those spots dear. All these new aggregate websites with coords and everything not only take the actual "adventure and exploration" completely out of the equation, but are one step removed from being Bubba'd to death. All it takes is one fad "overlander" to tell their co-worker or brother-in-law or whatever, and suddenly they're passing it on and on and on until there are broken beer bottles, used TP, and shotgun shells everywhere.
Many thousands of rafters have hiked around this area, definitely not a secret spot, we did an extreme low flow kayak trip through there over Labor Day this year, one of my favorite rock hound spots
Tough to do after dropping $9200 on the current setup plus, one of the main reasons I went away from an RTT is to be able to get inside the tent from the truck rather than having to go outside. But something to consider for anyone else who is in the market.
I owned a GFC in the past and they will essentially fix any issues you have. With fabric you may have to send it in but you can send it off in the winter to get it fixed.
@@chasehelmick6025 I have yet to do the tent replacement. They did send a "how to" video and while it is pretty involved (I will have to pull my camper off) it does not seem too difficult. I will probably tackle that project late spring/early summer.
Definitely contact GFC about the quality issues. They are super helpful and maybe you can stop by one of their new dealers to have it fixed. I had my truck outside sitting for a week and it rained everyday. I did noticed the back being damp. I was also on incline which could have made the issue worse. A few hours in the sun it was dry.
Not sure if your camper is brand new or if you have had it for a while but I believe they have a fix for the corner where the gaps are. They are putting a piece of fabric over those corners. Contact GFC support and they can give you the info. And also with the zippers they are recommending using a specific glue to glue the zipper down.
