From the cockpit, the straight cut gearbox nearly drowns out the engine. Imagine driving these cars in their heyday, on a circuit lines not with runoff areas and safety barriers, but with trees, stone walls, wire fences and spectators. It gives me chills. Oh, and watch the Cooper ahead of him get up on its tippy toes as it gets light coming out of Eau Rouge at about 9:14!

Does anyone have a link to a video with a V12 250F? Every 250F video I find is with a straight 6 I just want to hear the V12 on for once.
@jcgabriel1569
@jcgabriel1569 5 месяцев назад
That's because the V12s were pretty much experimental designs. By the end of the 1957 season, all they learned from making the V12 work is that it's not the way to go. So afterwards, the V12 cars had the V12 engines removed, a 6 cylinder engine fitted in, and was sold... There's at least 1 of the 1957 V12 works cars that had been reunited with the V12, in a way, and was raced for quite a bit by Max Werner, but it wasn't seen much after they sold it...

@alexlockout

the author made a not entirely correct comparison, in real life a 6 cylinder version is shown, with a 4 speed gearbox, and in assetto corsa he showed a 12 cylinder version, with a 5 speed gearbox. I don’t know why he did it, because assetto corsa also has a 6 cylinder version, with a 4 speed gearbox, the same as in his real videos

@@unionrdr he drove a shitty 3 year old Alfa and beat the mighty Mercs and Auto Unions at their home track. It had a 6 cylinder engine. The V12 engines that were present in Assetto Corsa (which is rather popular with the sim racers there), isn't reliable in real life, also it had a peaky power delivery, so the V12 weren't favored by the drivers back then. Also, they only made 2 V12 cars, the rest of the 250Fs had the trusted straight 6.

Nice find right here :) I see in real life you are able to brake much later at the end of the lap, and about same place for first turn. Perhaps it means that drum brakes aren't enough brake fade sensitive in AC, and in real life it varies more ? I have not really experienced obvious brakefade in Assetto Corsa. I wonder if you experienced brake fade in real car. And of course thanks for this comparison, it is very interesting and valuable.

Pedals are around the wrong way too.
@jcgabriel1569
@jcgabriel1569 5 лет назад
The pedals weren't exactly the wrong way. From what I've read some 250Fs had a central throttle (especially the earliest ones) and some had the throttle on the right side, normally it's because of who's driving the car. Some of the drivers back then weren't familiar with a central throttle pedal (Sir Stirling Moss crashed his 250F at the '54 Spanish GP because he forgot that it had a central throttle pedal, and pushed the throttle hard when he's supposed to brake) so their cars were either built with or modified for a throttle pedal on the right.

Thank you very much Guillermo Fierro for this awesome comparison, as one of the few lucky people on this planet who get to drive the Original. Co-founder and engine developer Stefano Casillo once called Assetto Corsa's Maserati 250F his favorite sim-car of any sim. I agree on that, because they managed to capture both the beauty and the driving behavior quite well IMHO. Was it also you, who drove the sim version in Assetto Corsa in this video? If yes it would be very interesting to know how similar the driving inputs are on the sim-car versus the original. @Soda_84 The 250F should go up to around 230 km/h

It is an original car, and a very special one. It is 2501, one of the first made. Used by the works team for a long time (1954-1957), won the 1956 Australian GP with Stirling Moss driving, and then sold in 1958, to Maria Teresa de Filippis, the first female Formula One driver, who competed with it in several races during the season.
