Just bought these last week, been on a few hikes already, they are perfect. From the moment i put them on in the store I knew these shoes were going to do really well, and I have not been disappointed.
Hey Justin, tried the 6s yet? I’m considering them for extensive high mountain cross country backpacking. Any thoughts on the high stack and stability?
I purchased one a few weeks ago for a 6 day hike only to find that on the first evening of use the matt was deflating slowly and I therefore had to reinflate it several times a night over my hike which was a bummer.i got home and put the mat in a bath of water to find that it's leaking from the seam so it has been sent back and I now await to see what happens.i expected better quality from such an expensive piece of kit.
Does anyone know how long I can use the flashlight in different settings? How high is the battery draining in %? This could be a useful information if you are on a really emergency outdoor (your flashlight is broken or lost and you only have your enduro2)
Hi, I'm trying to decide on the Nemo Dagger 3p, Telos tr 3p and MSR Hubba Bubba. I just got into kayak fishing and looking to do overnight stays. The other is see is a AmoK hammock but all depends on having trees. I live in Ontario. What are your thoughts and raking on the above. Thanks Tim
I'm doing the TMB next week and was hoping to ditch the down jacket and just take an airmesh hoodie and patagonia houdini as my layers ontop of a sunbshirt. Would this keep you warm while not walking in F40° weather? Thank you and love the podcast!
I'll never get it. Why is it better than the duplex. Is it really only because of sleeping pads? The offset is a deal breaker for two people. The pole has NEVER once been "in the way" now without a dynema floor...you know the part that sits in the water. I just don't get it.
I know it has the extra water repellency technology but it’s still only a very paltry 1500mm waterproofing on the fly. Do you think this is sufficient in wet conditions/rainy seasons when typically the tents usually have a 3000-4000mm waterproofing (like Xmid)? Does the advertised ‘3 x repellency’ actually equate to having an extra 3000mm waterproofing? Because the tent looks amazing but this water head column seems way too low for the category and price? Thanks so much Justin!
Sounds like a good tent but they don’t ship to Australia cause of our 10% good and service tax on anything over a grand, ridiculous they can’t just add the tax, REI Amazon can do it, why not you. Anyway had my rant, is a shame as I thought this was the tent for me.
Considering this in IV for the Alps in September, my concern is that filling amount is just not enough for -5C comfort rating, I guess it should be at least 600gr or even more.
This is exactly why i returned mine. Took 1 run with it in bright sunshine, wearing sunglasses. You can't see the numbers unless you get a good angle. I don't want a physics experiment. It's a LOT of money for a watch that you can't actually see the numbers during your activity. For hiking or golf you should be fine. But running/cycling you don't want to do an experiment, you are on the go. I returned. Going to get a fenix solar. See how that is.
Love my newish Xlite NXT. See almost no need for any other pads now. To alleviate numb arms I inflate the pad to being firm when folded in half. Allows me to sink in a bit without warmth loss. Sincerely love this pad.
They are great tents. Love my Dragonfly Bikepack for the same reasons you touchedcon. But symmetrical tents are easier to pitch, get the fly on, and provide more floor space. My only complaint with the Dragonfly is the high canopy head side and high arched fly, finding it less breatheable than more conventisl fly and canopy designs.
This video is great, as Justin's always are. I just wanted to share my experience with the Messenger in case you were considering buying one. I have an iphone 13 and for whatever reason the bluetooth connection is really unstable with the Garmen Messenger (I pair with other devices at home just fine with my phone and on these trips the garmen messenger was teh only blue tooth device I had with me). It constantly disconnects and I find this super annoying. You go to send a message, hit send, and it says its disconnected from the phone. Try some things, wait a while, and when it says that it is connected to the device, try again. Right before I hit send on the message it instantly switches to disconnected again. This happened over and over again. I really couldn't believe it. When you hit send on a message while disconnected from BT, it won't just send when you connect, so this requires constantly paying attention and trying to monitor the connection and try sending again etc, which is the last thing I want to do when I'm backpacking (I stare at my phone enough when I'm home, lol). This problem is made worse by the fact that the messenger kept locking up, like just freezing such that none of the buttons would respond to anything at all. It wasn't 'locked' but really frozen. I would reset it and then it would respond for a few minutes, and then just freeze again. It seems that not all Garmen Messenger's do this. I know a couple of people who have not had any of these issues. I don't think its just me... but you the reader don't know that. I tried a lot of different things and I use similar devices regularly. But who knows. Anyway - I'd be really cautious using this if you think you might need it in an emergency situation - given the unreliable bluetooth connection and the possibility that you wouldn't be able to send a message from the device itself either. I wouldn't use it if I were a guide or led youth groups or anything remotely similar. I'm going to look into an exchange but my two trips with this (one five nights and one three nights) have me feeling really frustrated and wishing I'd put the money towards other types of gear. I actually had other issues with it too, but the two that keep you from relaxing and also not able to get help if you needed it seemed like the most pressing to me. Sorry for the rant! I just wanted to get this out there in case anyone finds it useful. Totally possible that most are great but maybe a few just faulty devices.
I just saw a video showing the integrity test showing the air bubbles. However, that test indicated producing bubbles meant the filter was compromised and not to use it. Your test showed air bubbles appearing once the bottle/bag was squeezed indicating the filter was usable. Which is it? Are air bubbles bad, or are no bubbles good?
Justin, I know it's quite an old video so you may not see it. Was wondering, how good Instinct 2 Solar is when it comes to running in the city, between buildings?
Do not buy this filter if you can't easily return it. Got mine with "restricted flow" issue, practically unusable. There are A LOT of cases people having this problem, just google it. It is 2024 and it seems like they never actually fixed it.
Thank you so much for your nice review, may I know when roll down the top what is the height for this backpack, because I want to get one UL pack for carry on luggage, thank you.
My preference is a seat at normal chair height. I don’t care for a kindergartener’s chair that I would have to crawl around to get into and out of. Other campers have other preferences. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
Hey :) great videol.. Im headed to canada where 2 way radios SUCk around corners and trees/rock.. This should work.. question.. if i buy two of them, could i use 1 to track the location of the second? We are always asking the other fishing group "where are you guys". and instead of writing custom texts ($$$$$) if we could just track them that would be nice... Or if one of the presets could be "where are you" and the other inreach 2 has a preset of a location... is that possible? thanks
Its silly to have to pay monthly. It should just cost more initially for free service. More then 50% of people who buy these only really need them a few times a year/month
As A Katabatic Palisade owner I can reassure folk that the snaps get easier with use ( a couple of hundred miles of overnights). Getting in and out of the quilt and adjusting from the moving mode to the locked-in mode are then much quicker and easier. These quilts are clearly of superior design, quality and performance compared to many of the typical UL choices. The majority of "cheaper" UL quilts are rated to extreme temperature ratings rather then comfort temperature ratings like Katabatic. This means that by the time you are buying a 10F quilt to compete with the Katabatic 22F quilt you've lost the on-paper price and weight advantages.
