By day I am a Home Ec teacher who teaches hundreds of students how to crochet, cook, sew, and quilt. Here at Hope Corner Farm Crochet I teach you how to crochet as well as how to create beautiful crocheted projects! Grab a hook and some yarn and let's get crocheting!
@@valmatthews9117 for this tutorial I am using a slightly bigger yarn than 8 ply so I used a J (6.0mm) hook. For 8 ply I’d lean towards a smaller hook like a H (5.0mm) or G (4.5mm).
@hopecornerfarmcrochet thanks. I have used this stitch and like it. Need more practice to avoid slight bumps. Now to try the crochet into 3rd stitch...
So glad I found this. I’m commenting even tho it’s a year-old-video, to thank you for such great directions & explaining this stitch & join with wonderful detail. You show exactly where & where NOT to place the hook; which is something I usually question myself about. Also, greatly appreciate how you explained about helping the tension on bottom of foundation from getting too tight & bowing; which I was exactly what I was doing wrong. ☺️
Hi, I just found you things happen for a reason. I have just been appointed to do a test for the first time and I had to go back and learn a few things cause I like to do things exact as the pattern for so I just wanted to make sure I was doing everything and I’m glad I found you yay.
So does this count as a total of 2 rows? For instance if I do this method to start a blanket - will this method count as the first two rows of the blanket?
Thank you for a fantastic tutorial. I had high hopes when I saw you are a teacher in a school setting; I'm glad you put that front and center because it is what prompted me to try your instructions. There are so many tutorials out there, and it can be challenging to pick just the right ones. Thank you so much; your demonstration and details for how to think about the technique are so very helpful.
I have watched so many videos on how to to Foundation Double Crochet and this is the absolute best explanation! Your instructions are very clear and concise. Thank you so much for this video!
Thank you so much for your tutorial on the thermal stitch. I am wanting to make potholders and this is perfect! You, as always, have explained it very well for this slow learner crocheter😁. Your students are very lucky to have you as their teacher!! Have a blessed day & happy crocheting 🧶 ❤
I cannot for the life of me understand which stitches you're going into after the first one. I do the very first stitch, then get completely lost. Which loop are you going into? It's very hard to see past your fingers so I have no idea what to do
If it is going into the chain, then it is the 1st and 2nd I go into. If it is a regular stitch, I go right underneath the “v” that is created by the top of the stitch. You know you’re in the right spot if there are only the 2 sides of the “v” as well as the YO loop and the loop from the last stitch - so a total of 4 loops on the hook. I hope this helps.
If it is a multiple of 3+2 you will have an odd number of stitches at the end of row 1 since you start in the 2nd chain from your hook ( in your example 12+2=14 you should have 13 stitches at the end of the first row). So if you did a row of foundation SC it should be done in a multiple of 3+1
Crocheting a base chain of over 200 stitches (and keeping them neat and even by using the proper tension) was so frustrating that I had to give your technique a try. Success😊!
If you are using a stitch that requires a multiple + x amount of stitches you would do the following: This would count as the chain and first row of stitches. If you had a stitch count that said for example 3 + 2, you would need to FSC in multiples of 3 (3, 6, 9, etc) and then would ignore the +2. That is for a chain start only. Hope this helps! :)
Once you are finished with the foundation chain, you chain and turn. The turn is a little bit like a flip. The next row of stitches will be worked into the top of the FSC.
