I am a Sport Pilot, a Part 103 pilot (ultralight), a FAA-certified Instrument Ground Instructor (IGI) and an Advanced Ground Instructor (AGI). I build airplanes and I inspire people to become pilots themselves!

I post FUN, useful and instructional videos here and on social media for other aviators interested in the same and to inspire others to take up the sport! :)
I am fluent in ASL and many of my videos are in sign language and all are captioned.
I love your videos. You give me hope , a 61yr old disabled man ,(bad back but i think i could handle the physical aspect) could actually Do It! Thanks for sharing 🎉
Hi courtney dont remember if it was a year i use to watch your videos every week ,thanks for teaching me some flight survival .kinda chilly flying in your shorts like last year
For some reason I have not seen new posting for a while prior to this one. I really like the voice over the text, it makes the video so much more enjoyable, at least for me. I hope all is well with you and family. Somehow my notification bell for "ALL" had changed. I turned "ALL" back on. Keep those videos coming!😁
Thanks for taking us along for the ride. Seeing what looked like harvested corn fields reminds me to be on the lookout for flocks of migrating birds that have stopped at these fields for a snack on their way south!
I came over a tree line on short final to a grass strip. Between the tree line and the strip was a harvested corn (might have been sunflowers) field and a huge flock of birds came up. Scared the crap out of me! I veered off and went to full power. I circled a time or two to make sure there weren’t any more surprises, and landed safely. Low and slow is not a good time to be caught like that. You have no altitude to trade for speed and you don’t want to dive towards the flock. And you don’t have a lot of speed for a quick climb or you could stall. It’ll definitely give you a bit of a pucker factor! This was in a cessna 150, if I would’ve been in the quicksilver I’m not sure how that would’ve ended! Take care!
So Ms. Courtney, you press the gas & say, "Speed is Alive" followed by, "Rotate"..... I do not know the lingo but it does appear that rotate is when or close to lifting the front end up? Or does rotate mean the speeds are good enough to lift off? How far(miles or time) can you fly on a full tank of fuel? I'm guessing that you might be heading back to fly again now as it's a Sunday? Not important but I ask these questions b/c I am interested in these planes? Anyhoo, thanks for taking the time to post up the video, I'll be awaiting any future installments. peace & GB You/yours
Training teaching things to look for not just how to steer and land a ultralight. Stall seems to be the biggest cause of ultralight crashes, and it's usually at low altitude, things like banking changes the stall rate tremendously and is difficult to detect because the more the bank the higher chances of stall. Always line up for landing well above stall rate, I've actually seen people bank and turn to line up at the last minute and if your speed has been pulled back it creates this scenario exactly. It takes several feet of altitude to regain from a stall, every wing is different. Fly safe
Thanks for this video! I’m working on getting my Sport Pilot license now. I’m dreaming of getting my own ultralight and if possible an LSA too to fly with friends. I spoke with Tom at Kolb and they are building the Mark III again. I’m curious why you didn’t keep yours. I love your videos, keep them coming!
I really enjoy your videos, I acquired an older ultralight several years ago in a horse trade deal, I’ve yet to put it together and learn to fly… 1) I will be turning 60 is this to old to learn 2) I am having a tough time finding a place in Arizona to get instruction, Hopefully I will get a reply to my comments Keep posting those videos there amazing
I have a kolb and it has an older BRS system. Many tragedies could be avoided with such a system. I wouldn't fly without it. But, I guess everyone needs to put their pricetag on their own life.
Welcome back, Courtney! I dream of flying as mostly sightseeing, leisurely taking in the beauty of the sky and landscape, with some moderate maneuvering for fun. I don't seek to fly at high speed or long distances. Thank you for sharing this joy with us! Your videos are beautiful and informative.
Great landing! Is that a motorcycle helmet you are wearing? I am looking into using my bike helmet to fly my trike but I dont know how I am going to get the helmet's bluetooth handsfree kit connected to the comms, any suggestions?
Fellow ultralight flyer. Looking for legal proof t hat private airports for public use that take taxpayers money must cannot discriminated against ultralight aircraft. Can you help
If the public airport has banned ultralights, they need to have paperwork showing the specific reason for taking the action to ban them. They have to have a reason. They need to show you this paperwork. If they can't or won't, tell them you're going to call the FAA to confirm that ban. Then call them. I can assure you that they don't want you to make that call.
The forward slip is very useful as you have described , but since there is very little structure to a Quicksilver, it doesn't provide quite the effectiveness that one would hope for.
My father was a pilot and had a little personal "Piper". I moved to Australia after 9 years Army and was with the 2/502 Infantry 101st Airborne in Vietnam. When i came to the USA he'd take me up and told me; "I could wait for it to land" ... LOL He'd let me fly it and I have to admit it was fly one of my motorcycles in a 3 demoniacal space. Love it...Thanks
