Man, watching that point against Del Potro in the 09 US Final to immediately break and do so with that spectacular point, looking back on it now pains me so much to know he would go on to lose that match. I am sure there wasn't a single person who gave Juan a chance in hell to win that match after witnessing that greatness.
Roger Federer has often said over the years that what he can do well is to play with pain, with problems, and in all conditions. Find out what he will talk about? What is Roger Federer's biggest bondage? Learn from Roger Federer how to get from bondage to freedom of choice.
Roger will always be my favorite. So much respect for Nadal and Djokovic as well. Federer makes the game look so effortless. Nadal is the most humble and competitive fighter. Djokovic is the most clutch player in the big moments. They all have so many great qualities. All are UNBELIEVABLE. People need to stop getting caught up in the GOAT debate. Just enjoy and appreciate all of them. What Nadal achieves doesn't diminish the other two. That goes for Federer and Djokovic too. I'm hoping for some more epics between all of them.
Rest of the crowd comprises of great tennis players. RF is the Zen Master of the art. His touch, move, different mind-blowing shots out of nowhere, tweeners, snake attacks, thumping second serves that are unplayable, simple no nonsense but sleek first serve with high point accuracy, a cool approach, invisible skate shoes, etc., make him the zen master of the art called tennis. There never was one and not sure about future. So, now, he IS the best. Beyond GoAT, he is the Zen Master. There could be winners of 25 or 30 slams in future. But will there be another Zen? Father Time has the answer.
3:40 about this point; This seems to me Del Potros mistake, he moved couple of steps backwards right after his hi backhand volley. If he stayed close to net, he could have won the point with a volley, not a half volley as he actually did.
I don't even care really if Djokovic is the strongest player who ever played the game. Most likely he is. But he will never will have the grace, the technique, charisma, improvisation, and a long etc that Federer has had. For an example, the point against Roddick (in this video) , that smash return... The flexibility, improvisation and skill to perform such a trick would be utterly unthinkable in the best Djokovic at his prime (and yes Djoker is the most flexible one out there). Yes, Djokovic might be the best player ever. But he will never have approached as many people to the game as Nadal or Federer. Just my opinion.
The beauty you are talking about is superficial. In terms of vision of the game/geometry of the court/adaptability to conditions and opponents/mental strength/combativity, Djokovic is recognized to be the best of all time. Djokovic has a tennis IQ of 200+ btw Also, Djokovic's technique is just exemplary, watching his highlights are worth 100 tennis books&lessons, if you want to have a good look at how should be played modern professional tennis. This guys is 34 y/o and still rank #1, and able to win even more. If you think Djokovic is nothing else than a GS winner, you can not be more wrong. This guy is pushing for low level pro players to be able to live from tennis, and redistribute the money & prizes in a fair way. And he is not affraid to stand against China for freedom (Peng's case). This is what charisma really means
