Hi there! My names Phillip and this year I bought a house in the middle of the Swedish wilderness with my sambo (Swedish word for partner), Merja. On my channel I aim to help share the wonderful ways of the swede and help people to grow with holistic health and wellbeing topics.
You can find my instagram here: instagram.com/wellbeing_with_phillip?igsh=OG16dW1wOHc1Y2hx&

Waldviertler from Austria. Zero drop, some models with cushioning, some without. Fully leather build including insole, stitch down construction and easily resoleable.
Oh Lord...the previous owners knew why they were selling..note to self - when you buy a cabin in the woods, buy the woods as well. Better start saving now.
In case no one has mentioned it: the floors are most likely soaped floors. It‘s the traditional flooring treatment common in many places. They WILL last, and last beautifully if you take care of them with floor soap (it‘s easy by the way) Please consider not doing the linseed oil and continue the soap treatment. (We have soaped floors and they are wonderful)
I use regular hairspray for my hair and I have to wash them every single day with shampoo and conditioner because of it. What about your homemade clay, do you need to wash your hair with shampoo every day as well ? Thank you and thanks for the time you spent sharing your ideas through your videos !
Barefoot and zero drop aren’t really competing with each other. Barefoot allows for foot strengthening and achilles lengthening, to where it should be naturally. Zero drop kinda only accommodates the achilles issue. Having zero drop, but 20+mm stack height, isn’t correcting for poor foot health due to the shoe industry lies. TLDR: barefoot is MUCH better than zero drop for your foot mechanics. Just transition properly for “your” feet.
I have Altra max cushion. Next shoe will be altra medium cushion as a transition then topo minimal cushion. If it all goes well i will try xero neo prio then tyr drop zero then vivo primus lite. I am 40 with bad knees so im gonna go super slow with it
Good idea, I actually had to take a step back from even altras because I had issues from going barefoot too fast. Going slow is the best thing you can do! Good luck 😁
Best decision I have made was going to a barefoot shoe, been wearing the Hykes Escapes and love them, soo comfy and my feet feel so good. Feel like I have been lied to all these years with regular shoes and Never going back to regular shoes.
I’ve heard quite a few people recommend this so I’ll check them out. Right now, Merja has made some linseed oil soap and we plan to soap treat the floors the good old Scandinavian way 😁
I find it holds a lot better than other products, the downside being it is a little more difficult to get off the hands. It isn’t too bad for washing out of the hair but a little more difficult than products that use alcohols and water
Nice to hear that the Tree felling company are so responsive. Having lived in several forest's in northern Europe you can & will see things re-grow, it may be worth a limited survey of your own forest to check to see it's healthy, trees are a long term cash crop & commercial companies loathed to spend money on unnecessary work, I think you are good for the next 50 years. Cheers.
If I was younger I'd be envious of your purchase, you sound ill researched concerning living in through a Scandinavian winter. Not withstanding and more experience in DIY would serve you well, good luck.
This is why they sold you the house... Kalhygge is something they know about in advance. Now look out for bugs witch eat the wood that's chopped down so they don't get into your house as well
If one would buy a house/farm in sweden that has a few hectares of forest, without having any knowledge and ambition to manage that, could one give the forest rights to a management company or something that would take over all wood production in exchage for a fee or something? Basically renting the land out? Anybody have any knowledge on this?
You could try even removing the bentonite because it is naturally rougher and yes substituting shea butter. If you don’t live in a warm area, you could even add a little more coconut oil
i concur with bobnh regarding apple trees. i've about 400 apple trees here along shore of lake michigan, usa. your trees are good sized, certainly compared to trees grown in uk or usa for that matter. they appear to be standard rootstock. smaller trees on less than standard rootstock will not perform well in your climate zone 4. also, apple trees will take quite a while to come into their own (10 years plus) on standard rootstock in zone 4. you can learn all about this of course via internet. please seek some professional advise before cutting the trees down. Love your videos and best wishes for a great life in beautiful Sweden.
If forest is mainly monoculture it will most likely be taken down at one point. There are also advantages with getting more sun, you will see more low growth in the summer, less mosquitos and more bees/bumblebees and butterflies.
So, if I got this corectly... You can buy lots of forest land to build your dream house on it and they still can come to your land and chop your dream off??? Please please corect me that I'm wrong.. If that is the case, I'm really sad about it and feel you brother...
I just want to say... If you bought it, it is yours, not company propherty, right? For example, what would happen if you put fence around it? Or at least, they should pay you for taking out your nature resources from your land. This is unimagineuble for me.. If they keep using your land and your goods from Your land, whats the point of buying it?
The forest is theirs so they have the right to take it down but even if you own forest, you have an obligation to cut down trees and maintain the area.
I bet you have tons of yars with Raspberry Jam now, or perhaps the bushes will start growing next year, either way, that's the upside of deforesting, Raspberry bushes will start growing like crazy
What you typically do is plant lots of trees, and then cut down some of them to use as firewood and leave the rest of the trees to thrive and eventually become timber. It souds a bit pricey to me, but those things depends a lot on the location, my first house in Blekinge 150 sqm plus three sheds cost me SEK 700k
Thanks, Phillip for a very inspiring video! The ceiling/Roof of the "Shed" looks in good condition and newly rebuild... But the "attic" seems to be somewhat crowded with different derelicts
Did you notice a change in energy levels? I am always so nervous to go bare foot as i have been in a few crashes from motor racing and broken them in a few places in a nasty 120mph off. I say this so you can imagine how busted up they are and i am very self conscious about them. I have been looking into it and it seems there are different types of responders, like say a medication some people get much better results compared to the other individual who seems some to none. I best just crack on as the nice weather here in the UK won't last forever!
I think I did but I think it was more to do with my reduced stress levels and a balanced nervous system. It is very difficult to attribute increased energy with grounding unfortunately. Medicine will always have a quieter and more noticeable effect so you should make your own decision based one that. Hope you’re doing well!
Hey Mary! Thanks for commenting, I have been very all over the place with some health issues, stress, and other things. I’ve just recorded a little update video about what’s been going on and what my plans are soon. I just need to edit it 😊 other than that, we are fine and making the most of the weather where possible. Thanks for catching up and I hope you are doing fantastic!
I'd like to see the community that your home is near. I'd like to know how far you are from any sort of civilization and I'd love to see the town. I love little towns in Europe and Scandinavia and NOT America LOL
@@theNamesPhillip Small towns in New England are charming. Small towns in the central and southern US are typically run-down and unappetizing in every way. I can't answer to small towns on the West Coast, but I've heard there are lots of charming places out there. Your place is idyllic!
!!! Did you got the permission ? We have 2 heat pumps and they both work but a little problem is that they are terribly inefficient at really cold temperatures (-15°c). That room is not insulated, the other rooms are a little better insulated but not great in any way. The attic insulation is sawdust so we need to replace it with rock wool
I can't understand why you are so cold indoors, you have a heat pump..you don't use it and it's just a matter of putting some wood in the stove to get warm. Minimum inhos should be +20C
Both of the heat pumps were on full blast but they don’t work below -15°. The chimneys are out of function, we can’t use them until they are repaired. The insulation is sawdust which isn’t great and a lot of air gets into the house
I love this type of environment personally and it energises me in ways that other places can’t. There are risks everywhere you go but I guess I value it enough to take it.😊
