Hello Everyone, and thanks for digging this deep. Im Charley, and this is Daytrippin. A channel showcasing the beautiful Sonoran Desert of Arizona in Winter and Spring. Having lived and worked for over 20 years in Arizona and specifically around the Superstition Mountains, I have found fascinating places to explore and now to share. Thanks for Watching! charleys daytrippin is my 2nd channel on RU-vid. charleys outthere is my main channel on RU-vid. This channel is dedicated to fishing and camping the forested areas of Central and Northern Arizona. Come take a look and see a different Arizona, complete with Ponderosa Pine trees and clear water lakes and creeks.
I wonder if the bear and vultures were detecting a dead carcuss somewhere. They seemed to be heading the same area.Vultures have a keen scents of smell as well as the bear.
Meanwhile we expect all the things we use in life on a daily basis to always be there that copper makes possible. Including the car (even more for electric cars) you drove to Oak Flat and the drone used for the video etc. Remember, nothing gets done/built without farming or mining....nothing. Anyone can find beauty in anything, including a dirt parking lot. It doesn't mean you shouldn't park your car there.
Over the last few years the wildlife has returned. Once they open the road I’m sure they will find another place. It’s been very quiet and peaceful down there. I’m probably the only one a little sad they are opening the road back up.
It is a nice walk without the cars. I had a great time with great scenery while shooting these videos. It is a bit sad that cars will be back soon. I'll be out there again in the next 2 weeks to give an update..thanks for watching. Charley
I drove this entire road in 2002. Phoenix, Apache Junction, Goldfield( which I found fascinating). I camped (tent) at / near Tortilla Flat. There I had a meal in a campsite restaurant. The following day continued Fish Creek, and on to Roosevelt and up to Payson,I loved Payson, it was quieter then. Oldtimer Englishman reliving past adventures. I Love the Southwest.
I did not know that those were ore wagon tracks?! I see them every time I'm out there. I love that place! Top side site with that giant oak is my favorite spot to camp. I really hope the mining company loses this battle! That's pretty sacred land. Treasure it for its beauty and history above the ground. .not the "treasure" below.....
Hey Jay..I had a mine worker parked by those wagon tracks years ago and he told me about them and if you look farther down the road there's more. Thanks for watching.
Glad you made it out without having to encounter the bear, thanks for the tour, I would not have known about Fish Creek and that road without your video, have a good day.
President Eisenhower signed a proclamation in the 1950’s setting this land aside never to be mined because it is sacred Apache land. Then greed stepped in, politicians put their hands out to get money from Rio Tinto the parent company of resolution copper. Did backdoor deal giving the middle finger to the Apache and all who live in this area. This is also a watershed area they plan on completely destroying many thousands of acres and polluting water on a grand scale, polluting the Gila river also. All while Arizona has been in a drought for 20 years and seems to be getting worse. Greed trumps intelligence.
What is going on I was baffled at the bear in that location I didn’t even know they had any around there. Good to know ! Can’t wait for the road to open up ! Me and my family really miss driving to Apache down that road !
The aquifer will forever be contaminated. Bhp and Rio Tinto don't care one bit about contaminating the United States because they are foreign mineral giant companies.
ADOT posted an update a week or two ago and most of the big boulders should be cleared now. But when I say cleared, they basically blew them up and scattered them along the road. Their only intention right now with opening the road is to make is passable for high clearance 4WD vehicles only. Their target opening is September. Cool encounter with the bear, I would never expect to see one in the desert.
The entire South West USA is populated bye one thing! The A/C unit. without it none of you would be here. The only reason the Apache's are here is they got beat bye other Indian tribes. The were so bad we had a Camp Grant massacre trying to kill every one of them. Read your history books. This only became sacred ground when the copper was located. Always Indian BS in this state. They want to control every drop of water also. Nobody is going to miss a little bit of that desert.
Going eastward down, Fish Creek Hill, after the bridge, the road turns right. Up the road bank in the desert to the right or south was where the Stagecoach Hotel was. There's not much left of it, old nails, glass shards, etc.
My father was hired in the early 1960s by the Arizona state highway department, and as a baby, we moved to Government Wells on Highway 88. Dad was a jackhammer driller and explosives man. Between the 1960s and 1967, he widened Highway 88, often hanging from ropes to drill holes and loading the explosive charges.
@@CEK0549 apache lake is a great getaway..Maybe check to make sure you can get through because at some point they were going to close the road to install drainage pipes etc.
There are abandoned copper deposits everywhere in Arizona! ! Greedy politicians have Dollar signs fused into their future so they sell out to the rich corporations! To hell with Mother Earth ! Pillaged 0f a non replaceable world means nothing! Dig where humans have dug before repair as you go! They won’t do that because it cuts into their profits! Greedy S O Bs ! Rape and pillage is their game. Stop the madness!
I watched your video from June 24, 2024 before this one. Although the large boulders are still there, the road north of that spot has seen some major improvements. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for this very interesting video. I have driven past this area many times on the way to other hiking destinations. I would say to myself that I should make this a destination hike, But I have not done it, YET. I'll have to get a few of my hiking buddies together and explore this area when the temperatures drop in a few weeks. I live in Apache Junction, so it would probably be about a 40-mile drive out there. Thank you again the beautiful scenic views.
Thank you for the update. I had made several treks down there, but not recently. It really looks better now. While you were staring down that bear, I was out near the Coon Creek Ruins keeping my eye on a jack rabbit. thanks again for a great video and narration.
Enjoyed the video and I appreciate seeing the progress that has been made on the road. Much improved indeed! The chance encounter with the bear was amazing. I have seen javalina often once past the bridge at the bottom, but never a bear!
Everyone loves our modern society, Copper is at the center of every modern convenience, conveyance, gadget, and renewable power source. So - smart people, where does all that copper come from ??? We all go back to living in caves or we have mining.
Crazy about the bear sighting. Someone posted a similar size looking bear at hackberry springs not long after you shared this. Never heard of them being so far west!
When Is Enough Enough?!!!!! Is this All We Care About Is Raping the Earth?!, in the Name of Jobs.....And You Speak About the tranquility of the Land What do You Want A big hole And A city?! Leave it Alone!!!!!
Such a narrow-minded perception of the world is a beautiful country, take a good look at West Virginia they strip mied that state and it's torn to pieced the mine company left it the way it was once done
