I love this video! No loud "exciting" music. No unnecessary explanation of what the product is or why you need it. Just clear on screen instruction and PERFECT camera angles. It's so peaceful, this could seriously be one of those ASMR videos that everyone likes. The kids playing, the wind blowing, the cars and planes in the background, but not too loud. The satisfying snap of the clips releasing from the dash... I could go on. This video should be used as a reference for how all videos of this style are made.
Can you list all the products that are at the end of the video holding the phone? Would like to order this setup exactly but want to make sure I get right components. Thank you
That was about as relaxing a video as you'd ever want to watch. No narration but yet informative. I feel confident about taking out the trim. Great scenery as well. Well done!👍
Great video! I read the comment about using a pigtail instead of the "vampire" connection. I'm researching how to pigtail. The question I have is could this be wired to the USB connection as well?
There is a download link in the product page for the Bose version. Much easier install than this. Thanks for your feedback. There are margins we need to meet to stay in business.
How much space do you think is there between the long dash piece you removed and the main dash? I want to install some sound deadening material (it's 4.5mm thick) between those two pieces. Any help will be appreciated.
Why not just use some sturdy adhesive and four suitably chonky self-tapping screws? Should work just fine as long as whatever one mounts is not very heavy.
Excellent step-by-step install. No guess work or anything left out. This set-up is on my short list although I may find a way to do "always on" power which the 4Runner lacks.
Agree with the location, great place to do an install. Where is this by the way? As for the install, so tedious and lots of removing of trim parts. I'm possibly going to order this, but will forego the side trims and front dash stuff removal steps. I think just having the side mounts and front mount with the bottom bracket will suffice since I only plan on mounting a GoPro and small HAM radio face plate.
Hey Robert, take a look at our new version, it’s a better mount, a little more expensive but the install is much much simpler. You can download the instruction directly from the product page to take a look before hand. www.ics-fab.com/collections/dash-mounts/products/copy-of-colorado-canyon-dash-mount
@@ICSFAB Thanks for the quick response! Instructions look straight forward and easy, but agree much more expensive. Will have to think about this extra cost. Hard to tell at the pictures product page and instructions- Is the new mount level?
@@r0bv123 Yes it’s a multi part assembly, made of thicker material and has threaded nuts pre installed. This new mount is level and at the same height of the previous model. There are some more pictures on Instagram if you have an account.
@@ICSFAB @ICS Looked at the instructions for the new mount. Love it, but will have to pass due to the expensiveness. Anyway I can get $124.49 off; if I make an install video? The mount looks great but it costs more than the CB Radio I plan on putting on it.
That tape on the wrench pisses me off. Only because i never thought of that and ive dropped about a million nuts and bolts over the years. Lol great video
Thank you for the great video and great product. The USB part is junk though. I'm looking for a different USB block that is easier to hide wires coming off the back. No regrets about the purchase or install though, great fit and finish and without question the best one on the market.
Good install video and nice looking product. I have a couple of suggestions. Some for aesthetics, another for practicality and reliability. A recessed plug and black sheathing for the wire would be more aesthetically pleasing and provide and overall better finish as opposed to exposed wires and blade terminals. Using wire taps or scotch locks is very much not recommended in automotive applications. They have multi strand wire and vibrate. These Insulation displacement connectors were designed for solid core cable and for uses like copper phone cable that doesn’t move. A supplied, de-pinned piggy back connector for the cigarette lighter would be more ideal as it allows for removal without damage to the vehicle wiring harness should the owner ever want to remove it. Don’t take this as a pot shot at an otherwise very nice and versatile product, just some constructive criticism 👌
You seem pretty knowledgeable, do you know if splicing from the OEM cig lighter is enough power to run both power sources at the same time? i'm trying to find anywhere where I can learn more about how the electronics work in a 4runner. I don't want to stress the preexisting power supply. I do want to add an additional 12v socket in my glove box and have a fuse tapper to do so. Is that a better way?
Can not OEM matching wiring connectors be sourced so that a splitter can be installed, rather than using wiretaps? Wait don't answer - yes they can be sourced. Would be a much better solution. Video production suggestion: put the titles above and below where the video title and RU-vid progress bar would be in full-screen mode. Then when viewers pause the video to read the titles, the titles aren't obscured by the video title or RU-vid progress bar.
yeah. just for the mount. 90 dollars more for the extension that holds the phone. A toyal of 179 bucks. Way too expensive. Get the Bulletpoint mount for only 99 bucks for both or 149 for an extra extension for another phone. Still a lot cheaper than this one.
man the screws and nuts were the toughest part :) it would be good to add some more space so that it is possible to unscrew the USB charger if i need to remove it. right now to here is no way to grip the nuts and they keep spinning when i turn the screw. i need to do this because my usb charger is not seem to be working :-(
Recently watched this video again and because of your great install vid and not to mention this brand, looks, affordability, design and it doesn’t block or instruments info cluster (on older models) I’m buying one today as a personal birthday present!
So , all this work for a phone mount? I honestly thought you gonna mount a big screen or something, like a stick that you can actually move it around without all that work What happens when that Compartment gets dirty? Just air blow it ?
Yes, In the video you see just a phone mount being installed, you can however mount a number of things like a big tablet screen with a stick that you can actually move around. When it gets dirty remove the top plate screws to remove the plate and clean it. Easy. 😉 Check out our Instagram for more example setups.
