When going on a group hike, never ever separate from them that because the group leader knows better. Whenever s/he says “turn around & go back” do so as told. That hiker brought this upon herself.
Some of these comments are so rude and uncalled for. She lost her life, that’s the worst punishment possible… the snarky comments and lecturing is just ridiculous. Do better you guys.

I knew the comments would be full of hindsight, but that is painful for the family and friends to hear at this point. When I lived in California, first in San Francisco and then a few years in Santa Monica, as someone who has hiked all over the world I knew the trails well. Experienced hikers know the 10 ESSENTIALS, and I never left without a sling and these basic items. But those Essentials vary with climate, area, length of hike etcetera. I now live in Seattle and hike all over the Cascades and there's a stream or waterfall every 10 ft (!!). Hiking in SoCal, water was priority. Yes, if you're stuck out overnight a thermal sheet is good and other necessities but WATER WATER WATER is most important for day hiking, especially in weather like this . In the PNW I can hike with a water filter and not worry but in SoCal I hiked with a minimum of 4 L on day hikes in weather like this. As is always the case and if this is indeed her body, she nearly made it out. Even in the mountains bodies are often found so close to people for Lodge Etc. Please refrain of criticism of people choosing to hike even if it's this hot. If she was inexperienced the fault is indeed in the hiking group and if she was experienced she probably thought she had the necessities. RIP ⛰

How can this be???? THREE helecopters, a drone unit, a canine unit, and a search and rescue unit but they couldn find her??????? This sounds very bad: a serious criminal might easily escape from the police! SO SAD she went for a hike and paid for it with her life. At least it is good to see the effort that was put in trying to find her.
You must condition yourself to handle the heat before hiking. Go for walks on flat ground. My girlfriend and I would run up iron mountain several years ago it requires extensive training. She is the champion of the fire department drills every year. I live to train.

When she went out, it wasn’t close. She would’ve finished her hike at a reasonable temp, had she not been lost. Also, she’s from Vietnam … you realize she’s likely more accustomed to this weather right? A lot of Vietnamese people stay very active and walk almost everywhere.

Always check weather, time your hike well, dress appropriately, and bring more water than you think you need. Electrolytes are also very important when sweating a lot. RIP. Im sorry this happened.
