Too many people in Ireland don't appreciate the beauty of our bogs. Many folks see bogs either as a means of resource extraction, a depressing and barren place (those types really know nothing about bogs) or worse still a dumping ground. Because they don't realise how valuable our bogs are they destroy them, or overlook their destruction. But how can we change people's mindsets? I do think that most people do have an innate capacity to appreciate nature though.
As a beekeeper I`m very disappointed by the locals who destroied tens of hectars of heather around my apiary due to the turf cutting. My neighbour allways have tons of turf in his shed, no matter what the season is... Human greed is endless :((( And I need to feed my bees by the sugar with the goverment raised tax on it, from now on :((((((( I`m getting mad and desperate, seen so much desperate madness around...
An old guy I used to work for said turf is the only thing that will make you warm twice, first time when you're cutting it, second time when you're burning it. I wonder who figured out that if you dig it up and dry it you can burn it.
