I heard in an interview that the coda of Layla was actually written by Rita Coolidge who did not get credit.

Somehow, I think missing a parole hearing is not an excuse to keep someone in prison indefinitely. Sentenced to 16 years and he was incarcerated for 40. I know what he did, but I'm not really sure he was in control of his own mind at the time.

Why no mention of Johns decades long consentual incestuous relationship with his daughter Mckensie Phillips? You'd think that would top your list.

Love "Willin" by Little Feat. But I have to admit that I bought the Seatrsin LP in '71 and the first track is "Willin" by Lowell George, who I'd never heard of, and I loved the song. Never saw Feat w Lowell but I did see them w Leon Russell as opening artist in 2011. They both rocked, tho Little Feat was lacking vocally.

Got to see Lowell with Little Feat in 1978 at the University of New Hampshire. They played EVERYWHERE. Of the 500 or so shows that I have seen, this one is still in my TOP 5 ever.

Be glad you can use what you stole. I've been emulating Gordon for years! Wichita lineman, and so many! You couldn't help emulating, he was playing on everything! RIP Jim.

The piano coda to Layla strikes me as one of the most boring and overrated pieces of music ever. Is there any info on his old muso buddies visiting him in hospital?

Whenever i see Gordon listed on the sessions for an album i know its going to be good. I got the early Cher albums just for that reason. The guy pushes the music to a new level. Doesn't hold back and gives it an energy that other drummers wouldn't give the sessions. Genius.

I came here for some more info about a great drummer, but i stayed to laugh at the boomer awkwardly weaving cancel culture into story 30 years before cancel cutlure was even a thing 😂
@sethshellhouse

I don't think the word "cancel" means what you want it to mean in this context. But thank you for perfectly illustrating the broader point with this brave and selfless act of keyboard combat 🫡 On a serious note: this is not the place for you to try bullying people based on age, ethnicity, gender, or whatever else you like to "laugh at".

Just found this interesting piece on Jim Gordon. He was and still is, my favourite all time drummer. I first heard of him when my favorite album, Layla and other love songs was released. I still have that album and still love it. I started looking at the credits on all my albums and discovered Jim Gordon played on many. He had his demons but I hope he is at peace now.

reminds me of the book "imagining the 10th dimension" by rob bryanton. every dimension can be imagined by a dot, a line, a split, and a fold. i read it a long time ago so i don't exactly remember how it all goes but it helped me at well imagine higher dimensions. Also there are now a few animated flatland films, one is free on youtube and its a fun watch. not sure how it compares to the book as I've only used the audiobook to fall asleep and i never actually finish it while I'm awake 😅

What an informative and sad look at the life of a hero. Drumming has been my life and career since age 5. I’m 64 now and never cultivated another way to earn money. like many other players surviving on retirement and assistance, I hope to play again. I used to see many concerts. I remember going to a show that the drummer was introduced as Jim Gordon. I don’t even remember the bands name. All I could focus on was Jim’s drumming. Today I found out what happened to him. The story has me in tears.

"Layla" is one of my most hated songs. So long and boring and white as hell. No wonder I never heard of this guy. I've been a professional drummer for 25 years and I have never hung out with ONE who liked, or even mentions this awful song. Usually only enjoyed by people who love the beetles. "Pet Sounds"?🤮
