Good music certainly appreciated by more and more people, even though who don't have enough money to buy concert tickets and albums. Stepping into the third year in a non-profit way, my RU-vid page has been resetting some music out of many albums in an effort to get them spread around the world. That is what music for. It should go above money, time and places, jumping out of the limitation of albums and auditoriums. I will keep doing it and get good music appreciated by more people.

The best interpretation of this sonata along with Richter's interpretation, I think. The way both of them play the first bars of this sonata in perfect ❤

This was recorded in London, April 21-23, 1976 when Rubinstein was 89 years old. I believe it was his last solo studio album. I love this performance. 😎🎹

I heard him play it on his final recital tour in ‘76 and was awed by the performance, especially that extraordinary scherzo, delivered with such wit and rhythmic verve-impossible not to smile. And there (and in the Presto finale) playing with the fingers of a 30-year-old . I’ll never forget it.

@@Tom-wf6ym: I heard him play it, too, at Carnegie Hall the same year. It was wonderful! The entire recital was one big love fest between Rubinstein and the audience. 😎🎹

@@MarshallArtz007 I envy you that. I heard the program in Portland. Magnificent. A ravishing Schumann Fantasiestucke, epic Chopin 2nd Scherzo, the Beethoven, and a Carnaval that was likely as extraordinary as the one in NYC, about which Perahia said that if he spent the rest of his life working on it, he couldn't begin to touch the magic that Rubinstein produced that night. A memorable way to round out a 70-year performing career.

I remember the first time I heard Rachmaninoff's fourth piano concerto, played by Ormandy and Philippe Entremont, in an album paired with the Rachmaninoff first piano concerto. Until then I had only heard the Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini and the second piano concerto. I must say, I immediately liked the 4th concerto and have listened to it countless times in the fifty six years since. I am puzzled by some of the comments that seem to damn the fourth with faint or condescending praise. I am delighted that Rachmaninoff now appears to be "coming into his own" as it becomes clear that people love his music and do not listen much to the works of the serialists, the composers who disdained audiences by asking, as Milton Babbitt did, in the late forties, "Who Cares If You Listen?" Anyone who liked to listen to Rachmaninoff was considered to be an uneducated buffoon, a lower form of human intelligence, a dimwit. Those people have mostly died. Rachmaninoff lives on, in his incredible music.

I completely agree with you about this one. I love all four. Each is unique and they are all my favorite. But lately, I can't listen to this concerto enough. (But I've been going back and forth between this recording and a lovely version with Anna Federova ) Thank you for your thoughtful comment.

a true interdisciplinary genius conductor taken from us way too young. He was a risk taker, and dramatic thinker. As a young professional, I never got to play for him, which is a great disappointment.

Terrible. She does ok on the 3rd sonata, but lacks the strength to touch this one. Like the other poster wrote, Katchen or Richter. This needs to be played with resoluteness. Her interpretation is severely tentative and slow. For what it's worth, I like her. But not this mess.

...think you don´t know the piece. Look in the the score, there also p, not only f; and there is resoluteness from this pianist. f.a. the end of the 1st movement a.s.o.
