It's not sad. It's just a sign of the times. Shinee were already icons by the time EXO debuted and back when most of NCT were trainees. There is not a single achievement in kpop that he hasn't already accomplished either as a soloist or as part of Shinee. He doesn't have to bring popularity to the group or sell another album ever again unless he wants to. What he brings to the table is generational legacy.

I personally feel a bit resentful too. However Taemin always emphasizes that he's not aiming for the mainstream and prioritizes his artistic vision over what's popular. It seems like he's not too concerned with being the most popular artist out there. But even so I truly wish he gets the love he deserves, bcs he's got the full package.
