I finally got around to having a dip tube installed in my 20LBS donor tank. However, now I seem to get fewer grams of CO2 on each refill, about 200 grams fewer. Now I need to try inverting my syphon-tube tank, exactly what I was trying to avoid, to see if I get better results.
Great video on how to do what I want to do but I went to Amazon and Ebay and I could not find the parts. I tried to call the number below but there was no answer there. The video is great, you just need to keep watching it after the first part
One man's opinion: Write a script or outline and follow it. This video is VERY confusing (at least to me, it is). I'm very handy and have good spatial orientation, but this is all over the place. Put together your script/outline, then make a shot list for what video you'll need to illustrate your text. Good luck.
who tf told you flipping the tank upside down instead of using a siphon tank was "the right way"? This is a great way to break your valve and cause catastrophic situations.
We recently purchased the David's plantation shutter repair kit through Amazon. The kit arrived within a week and contained enough parts to make our needed repairs. Unfortunately, the repair parts were unlike the broken pieces. I contacted Harry Samuels, the manufacturer, regarding the problem. He was responsive and had me return the new parts along with my old parts which he said he could replicate, which he was able to do. The new parts were a perfect fit. Excellent product and service. Old fashioned service much appreciated.
In addition to encouraging the use of a 5-10lb Co2 tank, I suggest you forget the idea of refilling those pathetic little Co2 bottles, which are less than 1/6 of the volume of a 5lb tank. The adapter that runs from the Sodastream to the larger Co2 tank is comparably priced to the one Harry is using here, with only a slight design difference allowing for the direct connection to the Sodastream (see Amazon). I also suggest that you purchase your 5-10lb Co2 tanks directly from your local welding / industrial gas supply company, which is where home brew suppliers get them. Save some money and cut out the middle man.
Put your cannister in a -20c/-4F freezer before the transfer. If the cannister is warmer, the CO2 cannister gasifies and you can't get more liquid in due to pressure imbalance.
Thank you for making the video BUT YOU CAN INDEED OVERFILL A CO2 BOTTLE! A full c02 cylinder is a lot less than 100%. A c02 bottle that is overfull is dangerous. Please weigh the bottles and do not leave them overfilled beyond design spec
Thank You for this video. I was planning on doing this and wanted to make sure it was safe to do. There are mod adapters that connect directly to the SodaStream. do you advise?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Just purchase a regulator. I'm a retired executive chef .been working with co2 for 40 years. believe me, this is dangerouus and the wrong way of doing this procedure. break the cap off and see what happen.

I already have co2 tanks on hand.....medical grade....and I will be using the sodastream original bottles so no concern there, BUT after ordering what looks like the exact same refill adapter you're using in your video, which I just received from Amazon, there's no indication at all that the chinese manufacturer used lead free brass in any of the components. Thoughts?
I've been using three 20 oz paintball tanks for over 5 years. I use a hanging scale and buy 22 lb siphon tanks for about $22 every from General Air every six months. All you need is the brass SS adaptor for the paintball tanks...then a two valve line to fill the tanks from the big tank..using hanging scale for 20oz...great setup.
@@sancop Maybe the person at Airgas did not understand. But feeling CO2 tanks upside down is absolutely not safe. A little bit of research will let you know , I’m not trying to hassle you I’m trying to help you. A few things happen. You get the dirt out of the bottom of the tank. And you could flash fill the tank that you’re feeling and it could over pressurize to the point where the first disc can’t let all of the pressure out fast enough. A lot of people do this and there are some RU-vid videos showing it that I’ve actually been taken down. Again, I’m just trying to help. I am a certified CO2 trans filler. And a C3 certified air Smith. I’m not sure the sales person at your air place nose as much as they should to be providing recommendations like this
Thanks, I have not had luck getting more than a small amount of gas out of the Sodastream bottle after filling. Questions. I believe my 5lb. C02 tank does NOT have a Siphon tube, and I have tried this process holding the tank both upside down and right side up. No luck. Finally, the C02 tank I have hasn't been touched in 3 years, although it's full. Could this be the culprit? Thanks in advance.
NOPE! They do not fill those tanks with liquid CO2 - if they did then they would be a block of ice on the bottom. They're filled to 3000-5000 psi with gas. Flipping the tank over just makes you look silly

I'm curious as to how much CO2 you can actually fit into the small canisters. I have the large 130l (33oz) canisters and have only been able to fill them with 16-20 oz of CO2.
These cylinders are not filled with CO2 in liquid form, you don't need to tip the tank upside down. If it was filled with liquid, there would be so much frost on the side of the tank and it would eventually boil off to a gas.
When you talk about the weight of the tank when filled with C02, is that weight including the sodastream cartridge total or are you setting the tare weight to zero when the bottle is empty on the scale before you fill?
I jumped the gun on ordering my 20 LBS donor tank and had not realized that the tank would need a siphon tube for my expected use. I don't mind securing the regular donor tank upside down for refilling. However, I am wondering if inverting the tank will be less efficient than using a tank with a siphon tube, resulting in more wasted CO2. I also remember someone at my gas refilling company asking me if I will be refilling liquid CO2 or gas CO2. I didn't know there was a difference.
@DA LegoFyre! T. Thanks for your reply. It's been a little over a year, and the donor tank is about 4 kg away from needing to be refilled. I have a new valve that will take a siphon tube. When I refill next time, I will have the gas company install the new valve with a siphon tube. I have been inverting only at a 45 degree angle when refilling the 0.6 liter cylinders. This method seems regularly to do a refill of a maximum of about 790 grams of C02.
