I have one and I use the 12-35mm f2.8 (brilliant lens, so sharp) I also use the 45-150 like you, a decent zoom for telephoto I use the Laowa 7.5 for wide angle, the zooms here are too expensive for the use I'd give them I personally find primes a waste of money except for the Laowa. The zooms are just as good Thanks for highlighting this brilliant camera and finally I, like many photographers don't need phase detect auto focus for what we do 📷👍

Hi! Thank you for your great review. The Brightstar lens, is a great recommendation! I have a question regarding my next camera purchase, because you have reviewed both of them: G9 and Canon M6 II. I own cameras from both brands, original Canon eos M with magic lantern and Lumix GX80/85 and G100. Have some primes and kit lenses for both. I want to upgrade but I can't decide. Both are in the same price range. I have seen many reviews but I would like to hear your opinion as you've used both. Mostly, I use my cameras for photography: portraits, street and landscapes. But I'm more and more interested in video. Mostly I'm familiar with their strength and weaknesses, but what I don't know how the two sensors compare. Is the mft 20 mp sensor a match for the larger 32 mp sensor? Is there a difference in IQ and dynamic range in photos? Thank you in advance for your answer.
@uncunvenchunalwisdom
@uncunvenchunalwisdom День назад
The short answer for me is if I could only have one, it would be the G9. It is weather sealed and has fantastic image stabilization and the Canon has neither. There are way more lenses available for the G9 at all price levels, sizes, etc. With my post production work flow (I shoot raw) the sensor size really doesn't matter. The G9 is also a better video camera. If you need a bigger sensor for some reason and you want a big sensor and a tiny body with Canon's in camera JPEG, then go for the Canon, otherwise, I would go for the G9.

@@uncunvenchunalwisdom Thank you for the quick response. I do lean towards the G9. I think it would give me possibly everything I need from a camera for a long time. Just saw one used, in excellent condition bundled with the Leica 12-60mm for $1000. As an EDC I'll keep my GX80/85 or the G100. Thank you for your help. All the best!

The Lumix G6 was my first digital “system” camera, and I loved it. Due to a paralysis in my left hand, I particularly liked (a) its lightness and (b) that all control buttons are located on one side of the body. The first lens I chose to go with this camera was the Lumix G 42.5mm f1.7.

I picked one up a few months ago for 600€ boxed with everything as new condition. Had fewer than 4k clicks. We spent the day together today. I thought that it was going to be too heavy. But, it balances so well. I carried it around all day with little if any effort. I have a couple of day trips planned in the next weeks. Then sitting down and playing with them in Affinity 2. It's a bargain and I'm glad I have it. Yes, the G9ii is newer and superior. But, would I notice it and would the difference in price justify it? I don't think so.

For M6 I use the 3 Sigma lenses / Canons 32mm and for M50 all other Canon EF-M lenses and a Tamron 18-200mm Zoom lens. I can recommend both cameras because of formfactor and handling. I take great photos. Both xameras do have much sympathy - beeing easy to use. Ok, it's a limited System, which Canon gave up. But So you don't have only a few lenses to Chrome and that is SIMPLICITY. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I agree, that it doesn’t seem to go through the hassle and economic effort to shoot film, just to get a link to a download. At that point it just comes down to grain, saturation and contrast. I really like the idea of bringing the joy and feeling of that era to today without the need to shoot film. Looking forward to what you record. I subscribed 👍🏻

I am shooting some film now and enjoying the experience. Even the best mirrorless cameras aren't as good for manual focusing as a split screen microprism with a bright viewfinder and an f1.4 lens :). I only use film for certain types of shooting and it is very low volume. I am quite careful about each shot and I often wonder how long it is going to take me to get through a roll of 36. Fortunately, I have very affordable local processing and my own scanner, so the cost isn't significant given the low volume. It is fun, but I wouldn't want to do it professionally.

Part two of my earlier comments: On using square format like 6x6 cm, yes you will be shooting square negatives and getting square photos from a basic lab, but that is not the end of the road. As I wrote earlier in the comments, that square negative opens the door to more choices than the 24x36. You will be able to make choices unless you took a portrait close-up where cropping may be difficult. But here is what you will learn by shooting. As you will look in your finder, ask yourself quickly what you want to end end up with. Are you shooting a nice car from the side (horiz) or the Eiffel Tower (vert) your cute girlfriend ? ( square, or vert )you see what I mean. 35mm dictates pretty well what your picture size will be, unless you do big cropping for avertical. So 35mm is super popular but 6X6 offers more choices down the road. Go for Rollei, Yashica, Minolta and there are more to check out. Enjoy !

to robbrown3543 ! I love your honesty !! I also stopped using film almost right away !! But…I still consider film as the grandfather of digital and the “true” medium of photography since we end with an image on film, a film that “saw” what we saw ! But otherwise I admit that silver grains or pixels are pretty close to being the same thing….or is it ? The money saving of course plays a big role in making the choice. What I dislike is people thinking that using a phone, a flat kleenex type box, is good enough to take along to a great trip, a cruise maybe, and take photos with just one hand vertically most of the time even for the grand Canyon or their car ! Also, crooked shots are now called “great shots” ! and I say “thank you phone photography”.

Hi JB ! I’m your identical copy ! First wedding coverage at 20 with a Zeiss Ikoflex bought my own studio once out of the service and shot my portraits on a huge Kodak portrait camera using 5x7 sheet film , 2 shots on one sheet or one full 5x7 . I shot my weddings on 4x5 as smaller was not considered “serious” until using the Rolleiflex was fine by the early 60’s or so . Now, this was a great education !! So, I would say to young enthusiastic people “yes, go ahead, spend what you can into BW photography, then color and you will never regret it….” Also, I would like to stress one thing….If we ask someone on the street what is the size of film nowaday and before, the answer would most likely be “35 mm of course. What about 620 and 120 which were the biggest sellers for any years due to its beautiful size. Great photographers made 35mm acceptable for good amateurs and during the korean war for war correspondents who discovered the Japanese quality in Nikon, Canon and Minolta. The images from 35mm film are not really offering the best proportions, Minolta recognized that when they built their 35 Super with a 24x34 image, not 24x36. Now 6x6 cm on 120 rolls that I mentioned earlier do offer a special proportion. Some people miss the point thinking you will be always taking square photos ! Wrong ! You will have the choice of cropping to verticals or horizontals later on and will never have to move your camera to do that ! The choice will be great and will be fun too ! Enjoy film photography !😊

I picked one up a few months back. I shoot on a Minolta CLE for my street photography so carrying a much larger digital mirrorless didn't make sense. What made sense was to use a couple of EF-M lenses and borrow a few rangefinding Leica M-mount. I really love this little setup and wish Canon had pursued it further some some higher quality lenses and weather sealing like the GFX MkIII. I suspect the market disruption for the pandemic undid any future plans they had.

One for B/W and one for color. On a shoot, I'd go thru say 3 rolls of 36 exp. Love taking pix. Now, I'm back in! I really like a digital camera, you don't have to wait for the film to come back. I bought mine new a few years ago. Personally, there is nothing the new Canon cameras offer that my M6 Mark II doesn’t already do, with the exception of 1 feature: I have a 30-minute recording limit on my M6 and the new cameras don’t have that limit. But, none of the new Canon cameras offer the massive 32.5MP sensor the M6 Mark II has. But, the new cameras are supported, whereas the EF-M system is dead.

Hi, I'm enjoying the video but I think I'm about to show my ignorance. I understand that the 17mm ovf will give a 34/35mm full frame equivalent view on micro four thirds but on the Canon apsc surely it won't match the 22mm (35mm equivalent) as the crop factor is 1.6 on the M6. doesn't that give the ovf a 28mm field of view?
@uncunvenchunalwisdom

The reflection off the UV filter on the 14mm is astonishingly bad. At first I thought you had a blue lens cap on it! The 14mm lens has a tiny front element, which you have covered with a gigantic, highly-reflective filter. It must be absolutely destroying the quality of any image you shoot towards a light source. I would highly recommend ditching it, or at least buying something of better quality that has actually functional multicoating.

Hello Mr. Wagner, I would like to give you my opinion, without intending to bother you, regarding the contamination of the 35 mm film developing and printing process. I imagine that when you were working with these 35 mm systems it never occurred to you to think about how polluting it was, nor do I think that now young people think about how polluting it is to make digital cameras, 80% of which are made of plastic and are renewed cas models annually, or how expensive and polluting it is to extract some of the precious metals they contain, nor do we think about the liters of water necessary to make a single pair of jeans and the subsequent contamination of the water used, nor about how polluting it is. is massive livestock farming, etc. That doesn't mean we are going to stop buying digital cameras, the 35mm ones, even the cheapest ones, were made of metal in their time, in my time the cheapest ones were already made of plastic and in many cases with few electronic components, I don't think we are going to walking naked down the street because of the polluting and exorbitant waste of water generated by the textile industry, nor will we stop eating meat, etc. etc I think it is not a good option to advocate now that cinema is re-emerging against digital because of how polluting it is, now that this photographic system is a minority in the market, I think it is not fair to advocate for pollution or burden consciences of people who are beginning to discover 35 mm photography. Otherwise I think you contribute a lot to photography with your page. A cordial greeting. Jose Antonio.
