All people wondering why a lot of years ago avi sounded with a lot more volume and resonance in his lower notes and in some of these clips he doesn't... It's because he's using another vocal mechanism, he's singing airy on purpose, idk why but he's doing that, in some very old videos you can hear how he sounds when he close the vocal cords properly, and that's veeeerr powerful, and you hear it's powerful even from distance, so I'm saying all this because I have seen some comments affirming avi is some time of baritone because his D2 is very quiet, that is just because he wanted that D2 to be like that. For example if we want to do a comparison we have bobby waters, who has a wonderful vocal mechanism, stretching the cords and activating the TA muscles when they are elongated, if you want to have an idea of how can avi sound if he wanted to do it technically perfect u can hear Bobby waters. But u know, real artist usually break the rules so we can hear a very human interpretation, from the heart. ❤️
I DONT CRY WHEN PEOPLE DIE...BUT HIS VOICE MAKES ME WEEP FOR SHYT I NEVER GAVE A THOUGHT TO...LIKE THE ANIMALS OF THE FOREST AND BIRDS ON A LONG FLIGHT!!!
All of his singing is in chest he has always wanted somebody to be able to challenge againist with bass but nobody close he is a rare voice to come by more rare then these he like jd sumner but does not use a mic
I find it funny that he sound so much higher without mic he a baritone pretty much without mic a reall bass should be able to go lower then ever needed without break like my son his name Joseph toppins he a heck of a bass singer he sings in a choir like the ones on screen and he still can be heard easy makes this look like whispering he is often put in back to make it more even for others he only bass he sings by himself and still makes it sound like a whole group of basses in choir it great he in accapella group himself and is know as mr joe man in choir everyone does not consider it bass anymore the teacher made a joke he goes a lot lower then the piano can and loudly without mic wounder what mic would do lol he break the speaker
Basses are required to sing comfortably and loudly until an E2, I think you are confusing Oktavists with Basses. Oktavists are the ones who are required to sing down to an A1 at least.
3:24 : The two guys were not prepared for this with their double check. "Wha- ? Director, was this planned ? That's not what we agreed upon, pls explain."
What, I thought Avi Kaplan was some specimen with double length vocal cords, but its all amplification-based techniques that do not work without? I can sing down to a C2, does that mean I would technically be able to do anything that he can, if of course trained and practiced for a few thousand hours?
SgtTeeh look up octavism and tutorials on it, very impressive and takes a lot of practice but if you get the hang of it you can extend your lower vocal range from what I see
Niranjan Rajesh It’s not C#2, it’s kind of between and can probably work with both notes. But I hear it more in the D2 side, but I do hear the C#2 a little. It just leans more towards the D2.
link is a tenor and rhett is either a low tenor or a high baritone. hard to know outside of an operatic setting. link gets pretty breathy around the middle 2nd octave (like a tenor), whereas rhett seems decently comfortable down to the F2/E2 range which is indicative of a baritone voice. his placement would be on the high end of the baritone spectrum but thats what im leaning towards
In this video we can hear that without the microphone he already loses power and resonance near C#2/C2. Though there are still some deaf people than think that he can go down to D1 or F#1...
Nekros97 it’s hard to tell since he was in a quiet environment so close to the mic, but his C#2 in the Misty Mountains song seemed pretty solid. I’d venture to say C#2 is his lowest chest note. I think a lot of the confusion comes from the fact that he’s usually mic-ed so his low C’s B’s and A’s sound “larger” than they really are.
As a Barbershop bass, I prefer a more resonant and forward low note with more volume, but I also really love the sound of an Acapella bass low note. They complete the sound and serve the purpose of a bass instrument. Avi has more than enough lows to get by, even without a mic. Then give him a mic... unstoppable. And not to mention he’s very young. When he’s 40+ he’ll be projecting B flats maybe. The sky is the limit for him
AAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!! Avi who cut your pretty curls!? Wow, he really looks disturbing with short hair. It's like him without facial hair. Just isn't our beloved Avi without all the hair.
That's only an E2 xD If you can't sing an E2, you're a baritone or a tenor ;) Every bass in the world can sing an E2 easily, full projection. But yeah those Teenagers with braces really were impressed! true.
Singing an E2 is cool? then you must find bass singers in general to be cool, i mean Avi can't sing a C2 (4:08) there are an abundance of bass singers who could continue that scale much much lower, unplugged much louder and bassier, than Avi Kapan, he just barely mannaged to scrape the bottom and get out a faintest of faint C2, though that really were rock bottom for him.
Hitashi son Jeez you can’t help being negative? Anyone truly interested in bass singers knows he’s not the deepest or loudest. Doesn’t take away his ability, and his higher range is a tone that is irreplaceable. Doesn’t have the highest or lowest but he’s still kickass
