This channel follows me on my New Zealand motorcycle adventures, including drone footage of locations I visit. I film using a GoPro Hero10 Black, DJI Osmo Action 4 and a DJI Mini 2 drone. The bike I’m riding at the moment is a 2021 Harley Davidson Pan America Special.

How can I make only 1 mic (the transmitter) to record me while having the same setup as you do in the video? I dont want to be vlogging and then having 2 sound sources due to the receiver recording too by accident
@@SimpliAlex with the Rode Wireless Me setup, you have to have both the receiver plugged into a camera & the transmitter which you talk into for the system to record your audio. If you own a DJI Action 4 camera you can record audio using the DJI Mic 2 transmitter only, not needing a receiver plugged into a camera. The DJI Mic 2 transmitter also records audio as a backup in case the Bluetooth drops out between the mic & camera.
@@deanosmotorcyclerides I got a GoPro 9, so I understand I have to connect the receiver via the 3.5mm connections, and have the transmitter on my helmet, but I want only the transmitter to record audio, is that a possibility ? thanks boss
Picking up heavy bikes is a skill. I’m 80kgs but can pick up my Pan easily as well as my 07 Bagger. Trick is to turn the bars hard right, stand on the right side, grab the right side hand grip and lock the front brake on. Stand as close to the centre as you can, upright, lift the bike. It’s not hard and you should practice it an home on the lawn. You need 70/30 tyres minimum for gravel. 50/50 are even better if you’re new to gravel. Once you know what you’re doing, back to 70/30 if you’re doing a lot of asphalt riding.
As others have pointed out, if you're going to ride that type of road often it would be worth changing to off road tyres. They'll make a BIG difference.
No video of the crash? Be nice to analyse it. I ride an R1250GS and in the first month I fell over 6 times. They sure are heavy to pick up. All from over balancing, none from skidding or n]losing control. I test rode the H-D too and dropped that when it lowered when I stopped, began to roll forward to get a better view and it raised, stopped for traffic and my legs not long enough. Also came off cruisers with much lower seat heights. Getting the hang of it now. Great video
Did well got a tiger myself so know how big and heavy these type of bikes are hard to redirect them with the weight sometimes when there in ruts nice work great video
Mate, you are a light man on a heavy bike. You need to practice more on a dirt bike and you ride off road like you are driving on the left side. You need to stay more in the middle and you are going to hurt yourself on those tires. Those are street tires that look like off road and they're shit. I just don't want you to get hurt. If you are going on loose gravel you need knobby tires. Those are just the wrong tires for gravel mate. Glad you're okay.
Hilarious. 242Kg = 568pds Wet. My ktm 390 Adv. 177Kg= 379 lb Wet and cruises at 130kph with 155k on a bit of an incline. You may say that the Harley is 'more reliable' and 'lasts longer' but for $33ThousandNZd you could buy three ktms or four if you go a little bit used. ...and you wouldn't need a buddy help you pick it up. Same logic goes for all them bmw 1250's out there.
@@peripheral1258 nothing wrong with the KTM, great motorcycle & to be honest probably more reliable than a Harley. I’ve come from a 400kg Harley touring bike so the Pan Am is much lighter than what I’m used to. Ride safe 😎
Great trip report - looks like a real adventure! Thanks for being so upfront about dropping the bike - its inevitable on gravel really especially with a bigger "Adventure" bike like your Harley or my DCT AT CRF1000
I'll never understand why people watched that Long Way Round video and went "they look great off road" and then these types of bikes became the best selling ever since.
Mate I rode Klondyke a couple months ago and swear it was right after they dropped that new gravel you had your slide on, I very nearly had the same thing happen. Glad you’re all good!
What year was you bike? I have a 2022 model, it is off the road in the workshop for an alternator replacement, one of the magnets came loose. Symptoms were the motor cutting out randomly, once on the freeway and three times in the city, it would idle funny then cut out. They are going to replace it with the upgraded 2024 kit, at $4,000AUD, luckily under warranty. Have you noticed that the forks sit 15mm up in the triple clamp? I moved mine to be flush, lifting the front end 15mm and increasing rake and trail slightly, it make the bike a bit more stable on loose dirt roads. I've dropped mine a few times on dirt, great crash bars, no marks on the tank or fairing.
Glad you're ok Deano and that was an impressive recovery - very well done. Riding solo in the backblocks is really rewarding but when things go pear-shaped, it can be a lonely and stressful time. I dropped my Blackbird on loose gravel a few years back on loose gravel and had to wait an age for help to get it up again. Also had a massive haematoma when it fell on my leg! Take care mate, Geoff
@@DonutLord32 I did that ride 2yrs ago & they were sealing more of the road. By the time you do it next year, maybe more would have been sealed. Great road to ride👍
@@deanosmotorcyclerides I heard about that unsealed part was going to get sealed up. I can't remember when it was to get done though. Was it overly difficult to do?
Hey brother, watching the video right now. Hope this helps me decide on trading in my 23 Sportster S with 8000km on it for a new one. I’ve been wanting to go off road more lately.
I'm 80 yrs old and wasn't a big fan of Harleys until riding my sons 2023 breakout 117...sure changed my mind about Harleys...absolutely beautiful and in my opinion handles like a dream...been riding since 1968.
They are a great looking bike with all that chrome & the 117 engine makes it a fun bike to ride. You must have ridden a lot of miles over all those years. Take care & thanks for the comment 🍻
I agree, the Pan Am is a fantastic all roads bike. I've had mine for just over a year, have had 50/50 tyres on it a couple of time and taken it up some tracks and you can, but it is a bit heavy. I use it mostly as a sports tourer and commuter, with the stock tyres, riding practically every day in Melbourne, Australia. I have a larger foot fitted to the sidestand, makes it much easier to use on soft ground. I have dropped mine 5 times, 3 with friends to help and 2 times with just myself, it's not that hard to pick up with the right technique.
Interesting and helpful! You actually made me order one 😊 For curiosity, what were your gain settings in camera? Rode says you should put in-camera gain to minimum and use Wireless ME to crank up the levels if needed (Low, Medium or High)
I haven’t made any adjustments with my GoPro. From memory I downloaded the rode app on my phone & paired the 2 units & it worked fine. Message me back if you have any issues & I can check my camera settings. Cheers
I could tell within 5 seconds of watching that you were on a PanAm. Just by the sound of the engine and gear changes. I was disappointed at 17:40 you stopped for pie, and didn't show the bloody pie. Just bragging about how nice it was but nobody got to see the pie. Now we will always wonder what it was like.
Hi Deano, we almost certainly just missed meeting up! I'd just popped into the village to get a pie for lunch and parked where that blue van is. Did you park right next to the blue and silver Yamaha right on the corner? When I parked in our orange MGB GT, there was an adventure bike on the other side of the Yamaha and it may well have been you! We live a bit further round on the harbour. Cheers, Geoff
Check out my video - Buy a new or used Harley Davidson Street Glide? Obviously not a Pan Am but it gives you an idea of buying a new or used Harley. The 24’s have a larger battery. Mines a 21 & done 25,000km now. No issues since I’ve owned mine. Safe riding 🍻
HD PanAm. Had this bike for 4 weeks. Just issues over issues. Needed software updates to stop stalling on intersections. Sounded like a sewing machine. Actually a nice bike. Amazing nice and comfy seat, comfortable riding position and nice features. But not refined enough.
Haven’t had any issues with mine yet. I know some of the earlier ones had issues. I’ve had mine for six months now & I’m really enjoying the bike. Cheers
Great review. I have a '22 PAS. Agree with the clickbait stuff. I also agree with most of the likes and dislikes. Only thing you didnt mention was the seat. It feels great but after an hour my a** hurts! Its the slope downward, makes the top of my rear end go numb. I'm getting the seat fixed and i'm hoping that addresses the issue. Ride safe out there.
