In non-NLP terms you could call it progressive relaxation. In NLP it would be working with kinesthetic submodalities. You could even say mapping across from a more tense to a relaxed map using submodalities.
I presume my authentic self image would be middle ground between how I would like to be and present ideally and my values and what I see as radically honest without being harsh towards myself. As opposed to projecting a perfect ideal and trying to fake it til I make it?

Yes, my students and myself have designed multiple patterns together to work on this presenting problem. Since everyone experiences grief in different ways, also this type of grief, I think in the end it requires a custom NLP design.
