Orange County Water District (OCWD) takes the limited water supply found in nature and supplements it to provide water for more than 2.5 million people in Orange County, California. Since 1933, when the California State Legislature formed it, OCWD has been entrusted to guard the region's groundwater basin. OCWD manages and replenishes the basin, ensures water reliability and quality, prevents seawater intrusion, and protects Orange County's rights to Santa Ana River water.

The following cities rely on the groundwater basin, managed by OCWD, to provide 85% of their water demands: Anaheim, Buena Park, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Irvine, La Palma, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Orange, Placentia, Santa Ana, Seal Beach, Stanton, Tustin, Villa Park, Westminster, and Yorba Linda.

Is there any reason to fear of any type of attack on the water at any point ever? Is the treated water in a separate then the one that goes to our homes?
@ocwaterdistrict
@ocwaterdistrict 9 месяцев назад
OCWD does not distribute water directly to homes. OCWD is a wholesale agency that provides groundwater to 19 cities and water agencies. These cities and water agencies deliver water to homes and businesses through their distribution systems. Please check your city website to determine who is your water provider and contact them regarding their treatment process. OCWD consistently collects real-time data by testing for over 500 compounds, surpassing state, and federal requirements. Our monitoring covers about 1,500 locations in the basin, with over 20,000 samples analyzed annually, resulting in more than 400,000 results.

Don't you worry about plastics in the water, that is fake. Burning landfill garbage in CA town of Loyalton with SPI (butchers of forests except their own) helped do to us for fake green. The Fluoride is real, that made most of this nation stupid and CA leads! With ho's in Air, Water and more. Burn it hard so they can sell the ash to Monsanto.

I have some questions. At the 6:20 mark of the video a color coded map of the "US drought monitor" showing the Upper Colorado River basin region in extreme, severe, and moderate drought, yet then at the 8:33 mark of the video, it shows that same region actually had 91% of it's normal snow pack for the season. How is 91% of average severe, extreme or even moderate drought? Seems to me that would be slightly below average. Now looking at California, I noticed that we had an incredibly abundant snow month for December, in the Sierras. I believe the snow levels were up, over 300% at one point. Yes, the rest of the winter was pretty dismal, as we moved into Jan, Feb, March. That being said, The UC Berkeley Snow Lab at Donner Pass, in the Sierras, which has been known as sort of the dipstick for the Sierra snow pack since the 1940's, recorded 110% of normal snow pack for the season. So keeping that 110% figure in mind, how does the color coded map, shown at 6:20, show that area of the Sierras in a severe drought? I find it interesting that most of the major reservoirs in Northern California, which rely on Sierra snow melt, are actually up in volume when compared to last year at this time. You mention the huge reservoir Oroville, which is extremely important to Southern California. I see pictures of the depleted lake, taken in 2021. I would like to see the same pictures from 2022, since the lake is up in volume from last year. When we compare Oroville's volume (measured in acre feet) July 18th 2022 vs July 18th 2021, I note the lake is up 569,967 acre feet! In fact most (9 of 12) of the major Northern California reservoirs (those which hold over 500,000 acre feet when full) are up in volume when compared to last year. This includes the two largest, Oroville and Shasta.

This is an excellent video with vital information. However, during portions of the presentation, there was a pounding or hammering noise in the background. Frankly, I'm suprised the speaker was not aware of it. Thank you.

Very informative! It's good to see that the issue of salinity management is being closely tracked by the agencies (OCWD, SAWPA, MWDSC) represented by the speakers. It's both local and regional issue that often flies under the radar but can be a challenge for drinking water aesthetics (taste) and groundwater quality and can increase costs for irrigation with recycled water and corrosion of infrastructure and residential and commercial appliances.
